Video loses quality when uploaded to Youtube

The short answer is “yes, YT mucks with the quality”.

Vimeo is much better, particularly if you pay for a Pro account.

It is good you are trying to maximize quality with Handbrake, that can help; I assume you already have seen this:

Which discusses all the wonderfully complicated Handbrake stuff … that I don’t use because I am lazy and just pick Sony AVC … lame, perhaps.

Try using the Vegas option to Render and Auto Upload to YT. Yes I too have Handbrake, but so far I’m liking the Vegas to YT from Timeline. Give it a go!

Yes I will try that. I downloaded Video4Youtube and used it to render my video.
I then looked at its properties and this is what I saw.

I notice that the total bitrate is 6535kbps. I’m not too familiar with bitrates and how they work but the videos I have rendered previously had lower ‘total bitrates’ then 5000. According to Youtube’s Advanced encoding settings 720p video bitrates should be 5000kbps?

5000 kbps is a standard quality uploads, the highest bitrate can be up to 30000 kbps (for 720p)

Oh I see. So is the reason my video is not really clear is because it is running out of bits to encode? Is it okay to upload this video with 6535kbps and expect good quality?

I’ve already tried that but the video quality still looks blurry. Should I expect a video file with a bitrate of about 20,000kbps to upload to Youtube in 720p?
