I was trying to keep it relatively simple so as not to overburden the interface – it’s not meant to be a frame effect as such as it doesn’t add a mask – but yes I could certainly add the round corners into this.

Irritatingly you don’t seem to be able to move a Compound Clip from the timeline to the Browser at present. However you can make a New Compound Clip in the Browser (Opt/G) which is the way to go for now if you want to be able to organize them.

Here’s a simple template that is specifically a border and drop shadow effect – with all the available controls from Motion.
I’ve included a background that you will probably want to turn off but it will help you see what you are doing as you set up the border and drop shadow.

I think the really interesting part of this is seeing not just what you come up with, which is always elegant and effective, but also the how of how you get there. There’s so much to learn from seeing what someone else does and how they go about the workflow – great stuff.

You might like this improved version that has controls for brightness flicker as well (brightness level and brightness flicker speed). Adds a bit of extra something to this effect I think.

Does this work for you?
If I were developing it further I would look into maybe having a control that could also flicker the brightness of either one or both images, and so on.
Note that because this is a time-based effect, the speed slider will change its value depending on how long you have made the transition – for shorter transition durations you need a slower flicker speed. It is based on a 300 frame template (@ 29.97fps) where 100% on the slider alternates every frame, and 50% holds each imaga for two frames, and so on.
