Yes, drop shadow is an obvious missing function from the inspector.

A few people here have got around that by publishing parameters from motion and creating useful presets for FCP X.

Simon Ubsdell has created many great presets which incorporate borders, boxes and shadows etc.

    For example:

Check out his file page for many different variations that he has built.

Thank you for the responds Brendan. BTW it’s amazing how you and others come up with these effects so fast, do i need Motion 5 to use these effects?

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

You don’t need Motion 5 installed to use custom presets that people have built, BUT you do need to a specific folder structure for it to work.

I’ve uploaded a pdf outlining the procedure.

Installing FCP X user presets without having Motion 5 installed

Thanks to Mark Spencer for pointing this out.

    Cheers,

    Hi Vigen

Here’s a simple template that is specifically a border and drop shadow effect – with all the available controls from Motion.

    2661_borderanddrop.zip

I’ve included a background that you will probably want to turn off but it will help you see what you are doing as you set up the border and drop shadow.

    Hope it’s useful to you.
