The key to getting the pixels to “dance”, as you put it, and look like live action video is to add grain (also known as noise). Even if you are adding some form of animation, grain is still needed. Our brains are very receptive to when it is absent and that’s why stills always look like stills without it.

Not sure what the problem is – I downloaded the uploaded version and it opened fine.
But here’s a new version saved in the very latest version of Motion.

There are of course plenty of great solutions out there far better than my ancient offering, but my version was always free and here it is updated to the latest FCP X version.

Ah, right, thanks, Michael. I’ve never had the occasion to try it with changing the font, although as you say you can do pretty much everything else this way.
Perhaps it’s a useful one for an enhancement request.

Select all the title clips on your timeline by lassoing them.
Then edit one of the instances and they will all update accordingly.

Yes, but it well might be the right way to go in this case. And a lot more economical than a laborious expression.

You could always make the mask into a Shape Layer instead and use Set Matte on the layers you want it to apply to. That way you can simply animate the position of the Shape (= Mask).

Yes, that works too, but you’ll find that it’s only useful if your timeline is short and you’re not moving the clip very far.
For more complex timelines it’s fairly impracticable and often virtually impossible to use.

Copy or Cut the clip to the clipboard and then (if on a Mac) use Command/Shift/V to Insert it into the desired location.
This creates an Insert edit which is the process you are looking for.
