Thank you for the correction.

I would suggest using a second mac with the software on you are making the tutorial for and send the signal through a Folsom converter to a mac pro with FCP on it and import using log and capture in FCP.
If that’s not an option then you could try https://www.unixuser.org/~euske/vnc2swf/

Might I suggest that you go to “about this mac” and find out exactly what your machine is.
Is it the latest, when did you purchase this machine and was it from apple / apple authorised dealer?

I know you said you solved it by removing the black magic card but I thought I might have something useful to add on this.
I don’t deal with blackmagic but I know with kona capture cards if you check the expansion slot utility is giving enough lanes to the Kona (in your case blackmagic) card /System/Library/CoreServices

You can cut using the proxies that the RED creates but this can be unstable. You’ll probably want to use the software RED provide on their site to take the footage down to an offline quality such as Apple Pro Res to cut with and then do a conform once your done.
That’s just one option though, all I’d say is make sure you’ve chosen your work flow before you get started!
Good luck!

Hi,
Have you checked your frame offset?

Hi,
I had an issue with an acer monitor outputting from a macbook, turned out it was a dodgy cable.
In display does the acer show up as acer “model” or as generic display.
If it shows up as a generic display it could be that, apologies that it’s a bit vague but that’s the only thing similar to this I’ve had.

An advised amount of space for HDD space is actually 20% of the total size, I.e 100GB drives needs 20GB spare. This is because of fragmentation, when a HDD gets full it starts to put data where it can find space which leads to slower read times.
As Micheal said, investing in eHDD is pretty affordable these days, I don’t keep any media on my local drive at all only a copy of my FCP project.
In terms of your memory issue I assume you have done the usual reset PRAM and checked the memory is seated correctly? If so I would see about getting some sort of memtest running on your machine and see what errors come up.
Good luck!

Greg,
Also something worth noting is that AVI is a container, whilst H.264 is a codec i.e you could have a H.264 that is a MP4, QT or flv.
Apologies if I am stating the obvious it just didn’t seem to come up in the thread.

Excuse me if I am putting my two pence in where it is not required but I’d also suggest exporting a test clip of 30 seconds or 1 minute and applying your settings in compressor until you get an encode you’re happy with.
This gives a good indication for the full encode and reduces the export times you mentioned, plus the compression time, times by the amount of attempts it gets to get a nice encode. You then only have to sit through the long export and encode times once(in theory), which is particularly helpful on long form projects.
