Is your comp very complex? HD is very processor intensive, and how much ram do you have to use?

Why don’t you just compoiste the video in after the fact with Combustion or After Effects, that would be a lot easier. Or is there some reason you can’t do that?

Why don’t you use Soft IK with Dynamics enabled and this, if I understand what your looking for, should give you fairly realistic results. I used the same idea to create a full hair simulation.

Check you dock preferences, Repair Permissions and run the cron tasks… try that and see if that fixes the problem.

You don’t need compressor although it is useful and if you have Final Cut you probably have compressor already. Look at a compressing the video in H.264 that should give you the best size to quality ratio.

Run the cron tasks using the terminal or a third party app. Repair permissions and restart your computer. Despite popular belief OS X does need to be restarted every so often.

Actually the choice isn’t clear, if you can borrow and G5 or Powerbook and wait for intel do that, since once AE is re-written for intel, it will be a better option. And remember that the Power PC line is ending, so your buying a machine that is good now but will endup not being supported in a few years.
Try buying a cheap power book to tide you over then invest in a good Macbook when AE is ready for intel.
Would be my suggestion

Don’t use AE in Rosetta, its not good (think sloooow), unless your doing very simple things…
In terms of why is there a universal version of Final Cut Studio, its because you going from PowerPC to X-86 architecture, and a universal binary will work on both.
At the moment not much is out for intel macs and if you are doing high end work don’t buy an intel yet, wait till the bugs are worked out.

Motion is going to be your biggest problem since it only runs well on a highend mac, so whatever graphics card you get make sure you get a pretty highend one. Of course the thing to keep in mind is that you have an AGP not PCIe slot so this will limit your options but yu should be able to get a card that more then meets the requirements.
If you give some idea of the price range you looking at that will make it easier to give you advice on which card you should get, if thats what you are looking for
