  • Using Video as a Material – Keying?

Posted by Greg Paterson on April 3, 2006 at 1:57 am

I have created an animation of electric arcing and wish to use this as a material.
The video type is DV AVI type 1. (Cinema 4D Version: 8.x)
Most of each frame of the animation (BG) is black or very close to black.

I have copied my primary model and scaled the copy up by 5% and placed it directly over the primary model.
The “video” material is applied to the copy of the primary model and not the primary model which has a seperate material.

I have been attempting to place the video in the Alpha Channel of the material and use “soft alpha” to get the BG of the video transparent as the video does not have an alpha channel.

Unfortunately I cannot get the Video BG 100% transparent so the copy of the primary model is always slightly visible.

I have tried incorporating the transparency channel but this only reduces the brightness/intensity of the animation.

I am hoping to get some guidance on using Video as a material and keying it correctly in the absence of an alpha channel.

PS. It appears that C4D does not accept a TGA file sequence in the material channels …………… correct????

    Thanks

Why don’t you just compoiste the video in after the fact with Combustion or After Effects, that would be a lot easier. Or is there some reason you can’t do that?
