Best way to compress for web
Hi,
I’m running FCP 4.5 and I need to export a 13minute trailer for the web (original footage was miniDV). It needs to look crisp and clean and not get all pixelated when dissolving between shots and fading to black. Now, i’m assuming that this file (since it’s for the web) should be mp4. What is the best way to compress my project to retain the quality of the picture, but also make it small enough for users to view? Do I need to use something like Compressor or something?

If you want to make a QT movie for the web but a smaller size, then export a QT movie from FCP or from the Quicktime app itself. Here’s how to do it:

You don’t need compressor although it is useful and if you have Final Cut you probably have compressor already. Look at a compressing the video in H.264 that should give you the best size to quality ratio.
