Yes there are a number of ways around this issue:

Personally I use Toast Titanium to avoid this but you can do it directly in OS X. The process (there may be better ways but it works for me) is to make a disk image using disk utility. Set the size to be for a CD or DVD and set the format to be DOS FAT and the permissions as read/write. You then copy all of your data into the disc image and then in disk utility you select the image and click burn burn disc to create CD/DVD of the data. This should get you around your issue.

Clone your hard disk and then erase and re-partition.

The other option is if you make it a poly object you can use the poly reduction deformer to reduce the number of polys though its liable not to look as good.

Yeah, you put the items in the trash you want to delete and not the ones you don’t…

The only way I can think of to make that work is try making a poster frame of whatever you want to display. So if its a DVD cover add the image to front of the movie and set it as a poster frame for the movie. Other then that I’m not sure.

Yes if the system disc is the original one that came with the computer, well at least you used to be able to.
