November 8, 2011 at 4:10 pm in reply to: can Vegas open A FCP session?

Hello John thanks for answering back, also thank you for the many great tutorials that you’ve done.

I will not be giving the project back to the editor in FCP
I will be doing the final output.
I just need a way to import all of their separate clips for time efficiency instead of me trying to find all their scenes in one 4 minute file

[John Rofrano] “If you just need to export from FCP, there is a tool called “Automatic Duck” that does this using the AAF format which Vegas supports. You might want to try that. I don’t know if it will work but it’s worth a try.”

yes this is what I need to do
is Automatic Duck in Vegas or FCP? I haven’t heard of it before
if it is in Vegas where?
Also John can you explain what AAF format is? is this something the FCP editor would send me? something Vegas Reads?
unfortunately I am unaware of AAF
Thanks John Keep up ALL the good work!

November 8, 2011 at 7:06 am in reply to: .mp4 files render out with more contrast and darker

James & Danny I’m not sure if you guys know this or not but Vegas uses a color scheme of 0-255 WELL what does this mean, this means if you are using your scopes, which you should be to determine where your blacks & whites are & your scopes settings are set to 0-255 which they should be UNLESS you are using a secondary professional monitor, assuming you are both viewing & color correcting within the Vegas preview window you are adjusting to what you are seeing now, which is Vegas using a color index from 0-255
    well TV/DVD/Mp4/windows media player/quick time?etc etc
does not use a color scheme of 0-255 it uses 16-235
so this is how you correct the situation
continue to do what you always do within Vegas to get things to look as good as possible THEN when you are finished & ready to render your product you need to install the levels plugin on your master video bus track, then select the preset (COMPUTOR RGB TO STUDIO RGB)
now when you select this setting things will change immediately
& it wont look as good anymore within Vegas BUT it will everywhere else because it converted your 0-255 setting to 16-235
NOW you can enjoy your product with the same look you were digging in VEGAS
    ENJOY!

for setting your blacks as well as whites their are several different plugins within Vegas you can use
color correction takes time to learn however I would suggest you start with your levels plugin very powerful & easy to use plugin
always view your scopes when color correcting & if your color correcting within the Vegas preview window & not an external monitor set you scopes to 0-255 not 7.5 Ire as Vegas uses 0-255 as it’s native color index
but when you are done color correcting everything you will have to add the levels plugin to your video bus & chose the preset change computer RGB to studio RGB
this way your blacks & whites will look the same on DVD or windows media player as they did in Vegas
Vegas uses a color index from 0-255 while TV/DVD/ windows media player etc uses only 16-235
sorry I dont have any links for you
    good luck

November 8, 2011 at 6:27 am in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 10 not responding

Dom I had this happen once or twice before I’m not sure I remember how I resolved the issue
one, is all your files on one drive only, or multiple drives?
put everything on one drive only,
can you open your session? if you can try just copying a few files at a time to a new session,to find out what clip is going bezerk on you,
when & if you discover what clip is going wacko on you then go to windows explorer and change the name of that one clip, when you go to open your session Vegas wont be able to find that one clip you will have to replace it with something else however hopefully your session will now be able to be rendered down
that is all I can think of for the moment, I have had a few experiences where a clip would freak out or become corrupt where I had to remove it
    Good luck

ABSOLUTELY first & foremost in this order is how I use to color or effect clips within Vegas

insert the levels plug-in use your scopes to adjust your blacks & whites to optimum levels, go to help files to learn about your scopes A MUST LEARN for ANY editor!

second I will insert the plug-in CHANNELS,
    the capability’s are AMAZING
again pull up your help files on Vegas & search for the plug-in CHANNELS there it will give you the information you need to learn this GREAT FEATURE

most likely this will take you some time to learn HOWEVER once you have learned this plug-in then you will be recommending it too.

for me this will take care of my levels & coloring

NOW effects wise like MAGIC BULLET
Vegas has a plug-in called SOFT CONTRAST it’s the closest thing Vegas has to MAGIC BULLET I use it for WEDDINGS all the time

between these 3 items I can do WONDERS have fun.

  • without a doubt for me, use the plug-in CHANNELS
the capability’s are AMAZING, & of course levels is a must! with your scopes.

you will have to pull up your help files on Vegas & search for the plug-in CHANNELS there it will give you the information you need to learn this GREAT FEATURE

most likely this will take you some time to learn HOWEVER once you have learned this plug-in then you will be recommending it too.

I agree, the last time I tried to use magic bullet it would not work on a 64 bit operating system, I talked to red giant in person about that, & at that time it was not profitable for them to spend all the necessary time to become 64 bit compatible, that was a year ago,

now I see your post, not supporting Vegas, RED GIANT WHY ? bummed too!!

June 28, 2011 at 5:49 pm in reply to: Vegas 10 stability?

Vegas 10 crashes on me also from time to time when I hit the space bar to play, I am not in front of my studio computer right now to give all the specs, I just bought a new i7 8 core 16 GB ram have an ATI Radeon 4000 series graphics card windows 7 64 bit
Vegas must have crashed on me 10-15 times yesterday, my project was all 1080 P cine form I too am using NEW BLUE effects as well as AFTER FX very little programs are installed on my computer it is strictly for video editing.

Steve you mentioned a couple programs

    Prime95 Memtest86 DriverDetective

I am not a tech so my question is these programs find your ERRORS, do they fix them ? if not where do you go to have those ERRORS fixed ?
    thanks

June 26, 2011 at 6:14 pm in reply to: background image not showing in mp4 render

I just had that problem yesterday, I was using my jpeg with an alpha Chanel, whenever I rendered with my mp4 setting it was GONE ? I had to render my jpeg to a AVI file then render down my whole project to the MP4 that I needed, & that is how I solved my problem.

  • I am not in front of Vegas now, but you just have to disable this function.

Right click on your video preview screen, then a selection will pop up,
de-select the (adjust playback for optimal settings)
    that’s all it is.
