Hello Vegas users, been using Vegas for just about 10 years now, I know it I love it, I started working with another company recently who wants me to do their color correction for their music video’s, they want me to use FCP, I told them I have been on Vegas for almost 10 years, I know how to color correct within Vegas not FCP,so here is my question
is there a way for their editor to edit in FCP then deliver me there EDL (session) & for me to open it in VEGAS so I can color correct their product
can VEGAS open A FCP session? if so how, if not any Ideas other then them delivering me one continues 4 minute AVI file

I figure each music video is going to have around 100 cuts
& I sure don’t want to have to take their one 4 minute file & find each scene & cut it manually
how can I import all their cuts into VEGAS
    thank you all in advance

What are you planning to deliver as your output? A final render?, or a project to give back to the FCP editor? If it’s the later, forget about it. There is no way your color grading will survive and EDL back to FCP.

If you just need to export from FCP, there is a tool called “Automatic Duck” that does this using the AAF format which Vegas supports. You might want to try that. I don’t know if it will work but it’s worth a try.

Hello John thanks for answering back, also thank you for the many great tutorials that you’ve done.

I will not be giving the project back to the editor in FCP
I will be doing the final output.
I just need a way to import all of their separate clips for time efficiency instead of me trying to find all their scenes in one 4 minute file

yes this is what I need to do
is Automatic Duck in Vegas or FCP? I haven’t heard of it before
if it is in Vegas where?
Also John can you explain what AAF format is? is this something the FCP editor would send me? something Vegas Reads?
unfortunately I am unaware of AAF
Thanks John Keep up ALL the good work!

[Shawn Bossick] “is Automatic Duck in Vegas or FCP? I haven’t heard of it before”

I provided a link in my previous answer. It is a plug-in for FCP but in looking at it more closely, it looks like it’s not going to work for you because you will loose any FX or scaling/positioning they may have applied in FCP.

AAF is the Advanced Authoring Format which is a file interchange format for video post production that Vegas supports.

I think you’re going to have to make due with a final render from FCP.

Then plan on import into fcp timeline and doing the online and Finishing product.

Is there anyways that can suggest or have an better way to doing the step? Kind xml, edl, or etc.

So the timeline on fcp still can doing the editing for online finishing.

Hope someone can sharing the best way. Thanks.
