Plain old straight up 24P? Capture and edit using the DV/NTSC Easy Setup. It runs at regular 29.97 fps, it just has a cadence (look) of 24fps.
24P Advanced is another matter.

You should be using a 23.98 timebase.

Typically if I do I timecoded export, I try to use the deck to supply the code. But this is only if the deck is being fed, or follows, the timeline timecode. If it doesn’t, then it’s TC is useless.
What most people do is add the TC filter (In the video filters>VIDEO folder) and render….render….render…

I like TTTT so much. I really miss that ability in the Avid.

Yes, Premiere can do this…but Premiere can’t do so many things that FCP can…things that a Broadcast show needs.
Name one show on TV right now edited with Premiere. There might be a few, but Avid and FCP dominate for obvious reasons, and the lack of one small feature shouldn’t be your breaking point.

Capturing 8-bit does not improve on the quality of the DV image It is compressed 5:1 from the start.
What you gain, as was said, is in the text and graphics.

HDV cannot be viewed realtime via firewire. You need a capture card.
But it can be output via firewire. The only way to do this is PRINT TO TAPE, and it will need to compute for a while before it is ready to go…converting it from an edirable format to one that can be output to tape.
