Sounds like it might be time to Exorcise the system. Back up your projects and files, and wipe the sucker clean. Reformat the drive and reinstall the OS and FCP.

You need to take it to a company that specializes in closed captioning. And I think that you need to provide them with a transscription of the show as well, and a show master, as they embed the CC in the video when they dub it.
But it has been a while since I had to deal with that. things might have changed.

I have a refirb dual 2 G5 with PCI-x, and it did cost $1649. It was, however, in the shop for A MONTH as thy had to figure out why it was freezing, even while booted from the CD and installing the OS.
But it is purring now…

The only way to capture a live feed is the way you did it…uncontrollable device. If you need the timecode, then you are going to have to shoot to tape first, then capture. It is the tape that contains the timecode.

The iMac will be fine for FCP as long as you are only working with DV footage. Anything else (betasp, digibeta, HDV, DVCPRO HD) will not work on this machine. The big problem is that it lacks any real expandibility, other than more RAM and addition of External FW drives. If you are at all serious about using a machine to make a living, you need to get a G5 tower. And when you ge the G5, make DARN sure it has PCI-X slots. The current dual 2gig only has PCI…not PCI-X. This means that if you wanted to get a capture card at a later date, it wouldn’t work in that mac. Look at http://www.smalldog.com for good deals.

Create a transition with the duration you want. Add it to your favorites bin. Map that to your keyboard (one of the F-keys).
I did this for my audio and video transitions. I still wish that it would to one default dissole transition for both audio and video, like an Avid. But, this ain’t an Avid….

Select the sequence and use Modify>Make Sequence Independent. Run Media Manager. Use Create Offline. Set the full res format you want to use. Check Delete Unused. You’ll then create a new project with just the sequence which you can recapture at full res. What you do with the low res material is up to you. Media Manager does not affect it.

This happens to be my BIG stumbling block with Xpress pro and Mojo.
How can it claim to get COMPONENT video into the system by the use of a cable that takes the component signal and passes it thru an s-video and Composite cable? Doesn’t that just convert the true component signal into a composite or s-video signal? Doesn’t that make a Mojo box, that costs $1700, a HUGELY overpriced ADVC-110? I mean, besides the realtime effects it adds to Xpress pro…
Just curious…been having a tough time with that darn cable and claim…

What was the film telecined to? DVCAM? What are your sequence settings? 29.97? 23.98? 24? Are you oging to end up on tape, or are you going to cut the negative? That would dictate the sequence settings.
How was the nagra audio brought into the system? What kHz is it? 44.1? 48?

What is he using? Can it read a quicktime file?

To export your DV project so there is no loss in quality, simply go to the File Menu and select EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE. Not Quicktime Conversion, fot this will compress the footage. Make sure the settings match your timeline settings, make it self contained and you are set.
