I have two problems whit medie manager in FCP 5.

1: when I import a offline XML seq, I can’t get medie manager to “cut off” unused media, so when i capture i get at lots of long clips. i works fine when there ar media, but it won’t work on offline clips

2: when I have som offline clips in a seq: are there a away to recapture only the missing parts whit handels, an leve all the online matrial.

What i realy need is the decompose tool from AVID. Are there at workaround

Select the sequence and use Modify>Make Sequence Independent. Run Media Manager. Use Create Offline. Set the full res format you want to use. Check Delete Unused. You’ll then create a new project with just the sequence which you can recapture at full res. What you do with the low res material is up to you. Media Manager does not affect it.

I’ve nearly NEVER gotten “delete unused” to work in FCP 5 Media Mangler. I’ve tried “set independant” and it just doesn’t want to kick over.

My latest trick is to export an XML v.1, take it into FCP 4.5, use that Media Manager to create an offline, and it works. Things like filter and video levels and speed ramps and keyframes will foul it up, but if you have cuts and dissolves, it should be pretty solid.
