The sure solution I found to the problem…Revert to CC2014.
I was running into other problems with 2015 as well. The worst
was it would quit rendering after only a few frames. it was randomly changing the amount of frames it would render. 2015 is a bit buggy in my experience. If it runs well for you that’s great. I am not having any good luck with it though. For now, reverting solved all the above.

  • Havent had a chance to test this yet but I noticed in a tutorial video for compressor where the guys says to turn on the frame control option (where you setup scanline options) if the source uses fields. Mine does not use fields, so I want to try with the whole whole frame control section turned off. [fingers crossed]

  • Hey Joel,

I know it sucks and it would be great if Adobe would pay attention to it and made some changes.

My best solution so far is to get used to the hotkeys for setting markers on the timeline, and the hotkey that lets you jump to those markers. Its much better than nothing. I started using markers that way and it has definitely helped. Till then, I guess we could beg Avid to make give ProTools video editing capability. (would be a dream come true)

    [WORK-AROUND]
To anyone else who runs into this problem.

The only way I have found to fix Premiere Pro CS5’s ultra slowdown issue is as follows:

    1. Create a new Project with the same settings as your current project.
    2. Copy & Paste all files and clips from the old project into the new project.

This includes all files in the Project window and all clips in the timeline.

Thankfully when you copy (Ctrl + C) it keeps everything in the clipboard even after closing the old project and opening the new.

After I did this the UI was lighting fast again.
This proves updating to the latest version of CS5 does not solve the problem. It’s a pain in the butt to have to do go through this process every so many saves, but at least it restores your project into a fresh new file.

Adobe, please fix this bug for CS5 users!

I am only running crappy preview quality 720p AVI videos that were playblasted from Poser Pro. But this problem doesn’t seem to be related to video size.

It might just be a good idea to revert back to the lightning fast Premiere Pro 7.0 hehe. Actually that is what my colleague uses and it gets the job done.

I am surprised that scrolling the timeline alone would be so heavy on processing. I thought video playback would be that biggest CPU hog. And that runs perfectly fine. But when I use middle mouse wheel or click and drag the scroll bar on the timeline it is about a 1-2 second delay. And I see CPU Usage go up to 3% to 40%. And this is without any video playing.

  • Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.

  • Hey thanks. It did not change anything for me but it’s probably good to trash the prefs once in a while.

Let me make sure I am explaining it clearly. It’s not zooming to the mouse. I changed the default settings so it does not scroll.

When I mentioned cursor, I am talking about the playhead. I couldn’t remember the name. If the playhead continues to move outside of my view, once I stop playback (spacebar) the view jumps to where ever the playhead is located. This is what is annoying because I keep having to scroll back to the section I am editing. I want my view to stay put no matter where the playhead is located.
