Not possible. They’d have to be a split screen or something as part of a single sequence.

The VLC player for Mac should play them. But if you can’t see them then that’s not going to help you much. I have no idea why you wouldn’t be able to see them.

I think you mean 720p. You can mix different formats or you can convert everything to whatever format your final output would be. Lot’s of different ways to do either, and lots of different reasons to choose certain workflows. There are way too many variables to tell you what the best option is. The simplest answer is also the most time consuming and most expensive (buy a Kona 3 and digitize everything in one format, the format that your final output will be).
Honestly, you may be a little out of your element. No offense, and I mean that sincerely. So proceed with caution. I suggest reading the FCP manual as it explains general HD video concepts very well.

Wait a minute. You set the actual clip to “None” as well as the timeline, right? You do this in the Browser window. Then you drag the clip into the sequence.

You’re doing everything right. I just tried it right now and it worked fine. Maybe trash your preferences. Or maybe it doesn’t work with P-JPEG.
You could also open up the clip in QT, hit Command-J, select the video track, select “Visual Settings” and check the box “Deinterlace” then “Save As” to a new file. I doubt this will solve anything but it’s worth trying.

I’m not scared. I myself would rather die than live in a country like China, for example. I generally consider “Security Moms” such as yourself to be the scared ones.

Computer speakers are horrible. They pick up any type of noise there is. Having a cellphone even near them is going to cause a really loud hum. You should return them.
