m2Ts Files on MAC
Posted by Arturo Celleri on August 4, 2008 at 11:56 pmI’m not sure this is the place to ask this question, but if you know something regarding this issue or could recommend me to another resource I’d appreciate it.
I have a external hard drive (Western Digital 1TB My Book) with m2Ts Video Files on it. I used a pc with Windows to download the files on to the drive.
Now I have a MAC Pro and when I plug in the drive , it doesn’t show me the files (only folders). When I plug it back into the pc…I can see the files but not open them.
I need to know how to open and use them on both a MAC and a PC.
Any ideas?
Thanks

August 5, 2008 at 7:20 amThe VLC player for Mac should play them. But if you can’t see them then that’s not going to help you much. I have no idea why you wouldn’t be able to see them.

September 15, 2008 at 10:49 pmI got m2t files on Focus FS-4HD drives recorded from Canon XLH1. I try to load on FCP (I am a novice on MAC) and although the files are shown they can neither play back not loaded on the project.

September 15, 2008 at 11:14 pmYou have to use MPEG Streamclip (freeware) to convert the files to a Quicktime format that can be edited in FCP.

Thanks.
I was on it prior to your response, searching for other issues. What is in your opinion the best conversion:
1-Apple FCP uncompressed video
2-Apple Pro Res 422
I plan, as I did in Vegas to clean and keep the footage in uncompressed files to avoid artifacts.
Thanks

September 16, 2008 at 12:29 amUnless you have a massive very fast raid, ProRes will do just fine.

November 23, 2008 at 2:49 amHELP, please.
I just tried to use MPEG Streamclip 1.9.2 to export m2Ts files to quicktime files so that I could edit in FCP. First when i went to select the m2Ts files they were not accessible as video files. I changed the file setting to “all files” and then batch selected an entire folder of the m2Ts files. when i went to export (i dont understand why it does not call for a conversion) to .mov files an error message popped up for each m2Ts file: “the first video frame was not found” Evidently the program is not recongizing these files as video files. How can i convert these m2Ts files so I can edit in FCP.

Clipwrap wraps *.m2ts files into .mov files. I have not tried this yet.

December 8, 2008 at 10:53 pmThere has to be an easy and accessible way to deal with these files. My friend shot the video on a new consumer-level Sony camcorder, and I have 1500 dollars worth of professional video editing software on my computer. All I want to do is cut this video. Is FCP developing a patch to deal with AVCHD footage? Are the m2Ts files an intermediate codec that only run on PC’s? Should I try directly importing from the camera? Do I need Sony software to deal with this amazing high-end and utterly useless new compression?
I have searched high and low to find an answer to these questions and have found nothing of substance. Given the lack of success I am enjoying with suggestions posted on boards such as these, there is no way I am going to risk buying conversion software from an unknown provider.
Does anyone know how to deal with AVCHD/m2Ts files on Macs running FCP?
