I just bought the JVC TM-H150CG myself. It was much cheaper than the sony and quite fankly I think it has a better looking image. The upgrade to SDI is much cheaper as well. I’m very happy with my purchase.

  • Of course if you have any old amplifier that has a coax in. (for DVD usually) you can just plug it in to that.

Well it certainly is a brave new world out there. As for me I just can’t stand the menu above the Canvas/Viewer.
Just because I need all the screen real estate I can get. I rarely access the menu bar apart from FX so keep it with all of my open bins and audio mixer and scopes on the other side. This is just prime editing only mode. I have about 6 others that I use that put things all over the place, but this is my primary set up.

    Thanks for all the responses.

reverse engineer what apple has done to make the multiple edits layout and you should be able to construct your own to best suit your needs. All the multiple edits layout is; is just using the frame viewers.

Very handy. Once you get into making your own layouts for such tasks as compositing, grading, track laying, viewing etc. you’ll wonder how you ever got by without them.

What’s best if your a freelancer like me. Get yourself a dot mac account and keep all of your track, window, keyboard layouts as well as timeline and bin views there. That way you’ll always feel at home no matter where you are. 😉

June 26, 2006 at 1:35 pm in reply to: calibrating 2 monitors

sheesh talk about hijacking a thread. OK I have two monitors and have worked in many facilities where they have two different monitors. The last being a 20″ and a 30″ certainly noticed no softening, though once the 30″ did decide that it would only do 1024 / 768. So maybe just check them both and make sure they are running at their native resolutions. Calibrating two monitors to look the same can be a very tricky thing. I was lucky in that we had both display calibrated using some called ColorEyes with a monitor probe. FANTASTIC. We had both monitors matched perfectly plus made a profile that accurately represented the video transferred to 35mm and projected. This was so I could check the look of the film running on the 30″ in full scren. Boy did it seem dark!

Sounds to me like your render setting are not set to render all. Make sure they will render everything.
Also the timecode filter will drop off where there is no video at all, so insert black (slug) wherever that may occur.

  • That’s odd, have installed the update on two machines running Decklink Pro cards with no problems.

Doesn’t work with the 30″. I think you need the Multibridge Extreme for that.

I can’t use the Wavs because they are six channel wavs and final cut doesn’t support the format.

  • Thanks for the info. MyVCR does hog the Decklink so you can launch iChat. I wonder why the Blackmagic Deck control doesn’t do this.
Anyway thanks for the fix and your efforts in sorting out iPhoto. It only happens if you have Video Desktop enabled and you try and edit a photo inside iPhoto. Once you are finished editing and then save the app will crash.
