It completely hoses Final Cut/Decklink playback with the latest drivers.

After updating, it will cause your SDI output to periodically flash and drop out, in conjunction with the audio dropping out.

I should know better than to install an OS-related update before my vendors approve them 🙁

That’s odd, have installed the update on two machines running Decklink Pro cards with no problems.

I had a similar problem without updating the Pro Apps. I messed around for 3 hours before fixing (I think) the problem. But now I don’t know exactly which thing I did, fixed the problem. Besides restarting the G5 and the MBE, I also ended up disconnecting the composite/ref input on the MBE which had been connected to the output of an unused deck. So it may have been getting an inaccurate sync reference and causing the flashes & audio drop out.

It’s funny you mention this, Jon, because after about 4 hours of troubleshooting, the only way I could get my system to output to BetaSP dubs without the wierd dropouts was to to unplug the reference signal to my Decklink’s Genlock connection. Of course, this caused rolling sync-bars on the Beta deck on E-to-E, but when playing back the tape after recording, it looks fine.

You can usually loop the Y or composite input signal through the ref video connector to sync the SP deck to the incoming signal. This will stop the rolling bars and give you some peace of mind. Sometimes the deck will object to this if the incoming signal is of low quality, eg. off a VHS, but it will usually work with a high quality signal.
