Build your project in HD (1080) and monitor your work for safe areas to make sure it’ll work in conversion down to SD (480).

Create a path in Photoshop using the pen tool, then choose “export paths to illustrator”. Load that file into After Effects and see if it works.

Another way to do this is to drag the open files into one file, and by holding shift (if the documents have the same dimensions), it will stack centered.

Use the ellipse tool to create large ellipses of various shades – dark blue, light blue, etc., each on a different layer. Then change the blending mode / opacity of each to get the look you want. Using the ellipse tool is quick, easy and ensures the curves you’re making are perfect. The pen tool is good too, but I prefer using the ellipse tool for something like this.

It’s not a matter of resolution, rather, what you chose as your format – you say .mov, but that’s just the container. Try rendering Animation as your format under Format Options and choose Best quality under the compressor.

Viewing playback via a graphic equalizer should give you a visual breakdown of the various frequencies. Is this what you mean?

Using Keylight you might be able to control the color of that area by adjusting the various controls.
