this is obviously a video card issue. I know that is not a LOT of help to you, but you should check your drivers, or FRANKLY in my opinion. Invest in a high end card. Its SO worth the reasonable amount of money it costs. I am stuck with a very good, but slightly dated main CPU for my main workstation. The video card upgrade was worth its weight in gold. Video card technology is advancing faster than CPU processor technology, (right now anyway)
my 2 cents….

February 10, 2010 at 1:22 am in reply to: Water splash from puddle in camera in After EffectsI agree with dave. Other than a 3d effect which is what I would do, you would need multiple instances of mr mercury. One for the splash, one for the effect on the screen.
Get your hands dirty and try it for ‘real’.. 🙂

as long as you render a pass of just the character, you can use that mask to contain any number of ghost like materializing effects. Too many to list with all the plug ins available. Also feathering, choking and expanding the characters mask can lead to softer or ‘harsher’ looks.
Just get that alpha of your character and create away!

particle illusion offers many great fire presets that would look great for that effect. Much easier than Particular…. my 2 cents

I used the plug in shatter set to max settings in tile repetition. My demo reel has a few good samples of text turning into particles that way….

January 22, 2010 at 12:08 am in reply to: Rendering Mov with Alpha and Kepping Add Modewhat i do with fire is precomp the fire, make it black and white and tweak the curves or levels to “taste” then apply that layer over the top of your fire as a luminance matte. It can take a little tweaking but ive always gotten pretty good results doing this..

I dont want to sound overly simplistic here, but wouldnt changing the color in ILLUSTRATOR be the easier way to go? Or cant you for some reason…..
