I would bolster my red text, IF I NEEDED it and it was somewhat bold in a deeper\safe color shade of red.
Many times it looks nice and ‘contains’ your edge integrity as well.

Quicktime Pro is pretty useful as well. I use that quite a bit.

  • also check out particle illusion, which, TO ME, is the best particle generator. Particular is very good, just harder to get the exact look your going for quickly. An AE version is coming out very soon…

January 18, 2010 at 12:00 am in reply to: Text into a tree

I would use After Effects. I would create the outline of the tree in black and white silhouette.
Then I would hand keyframe the 30 -40 characters to fly up and rotate or whatever you choose, to
various areas of the trees limbs and trunk. Use the black and white tree silhouette as a luminance mask,
Which will clip the letters perfectly to the shape of the tree. That is the “simple” way to go.

Personally I would also apply a mesh warp over the tree shape, that was distorted to the edges of the tree
and effecting the text animation layer (precomped) I would also animate each text piece to ‘scale\grow’ upward from the next piece of text in that ‘sprouting’ way.

January 13, 2010 at 11:00 pm in reply to: Rendering = color problems. Washed out.

not sure if this helps, but it appears that you have an extremely subtle radial blend in the background. Those type of subtle blends ten to be more difficult to get smoooth. Notice in the top image there is some banding and an attempt at a blend. The bottom image seems to have ‘given up’ on even trying to replicate that blend and is just a lighter solid grey. The key lies in that blend and if you truly need it or not. Otherwise, a higher bit depth should help. Its so subltle I might just eliminate it.

    Hope my observation helps some….

open gl is a good guess. Are these segmented at all? if so, one may be on a 3d layer accidentally set at a different height…

need to know a little more detail on WHY you may need 30000 pixels. There are memory settings that can help, and keeping your cache clear constantly… What are you trying to pull off visually?

January 12, 2010 at 8:21 pm in reply to: Which would be best practice in this situation?

it all depends on editing flexibility. If your POSITIVE of your videos timings your fine rendering that out separately and laying text on top of that. If you have ANY possible need to slide any of the clips or tweak the timing, then precomp things and composite those comps into your final comp. Giving yourself maximum flexibilty in making changes…

    good luck!

When you say ‘clipping’ your whites, do you mean ‘keying them out to transparency, or garbling them into video noise of some sort?
