what resolution are you working at and are you field rendering the output. Both have an impact on whether something “jitters” It also has a lot to do with what type of monitor and compression you may be viewing your output at. Way to many variables to say for sure which to try first.

I LOVE it when they ‘fix it in post’. Its how I make a living. Yes, a practical effect is great, but this is the after effects forum, so I would work some solids and some masks on those solids. Depending on how ‘hard edged’ yu want the look will dictate your masks feathering. I would precomp the lights timing first and mask the precomp so you can alter the lighting speed and color to taste. Use any overlay mode you like best with opacity settings. Realism is one thing. If you want a stylized look, which can be really cool than you can play with all kinds of masking and more to get your look.

I think your pretty accurate. Just a LOT of shots most likely determined after the camera move was settled on.

is this a tracking test for you? Why not just precomp in the video inside the frame and parent whatever you need to that…..

well, if you need to animate content to match a path shape, then you will need to keyframe it accordingly.
Your “path” needs to match the motion of your ‘light’ trail. So your velocity is going to be fixed depending on the number of inbetween frames you allow for.

Im not sure I get your question, but I tried… 🙂

you can also, in your case, use the change color to adjust green to a grey or subtract saturation.
If its a high end client, (did I say that? crap…..) I would hand matte a lot of the frames or use a tool like PV feather from re-vision….

.mov will be at the end of your uncompressed animation codec as well. Check your vegas settings. AE most likely spit out exactly what you told it too. Vegas is probably the culprit. Are you going mac to pc? And why not FCP or is Vegas required? Quicktimes player itself is weird to me, but im no codec expert. Some things play back ok for me, some with bars and I dont get it. I have QT Pro. I rely on strictly AE output to my ‘clients’.

    good luck

Nucleo is worth it for what it does. AE obviously purchased some technology from them. I was an early adopter to Nucleo products. They still offer options that AE does not. Problem is, that its no longer a $500 product because AE FINALLY does the basics of what nucleo basic did. I have no inside knowledge. Just 18 yrs of AE 1.0 till now experience. I purchased a dedicated accelerator (ice board) that was REALLY expensive, so Ive tried to squeeze EVERY bit of performance out of AE on a mac that I always could.
This is more of ME chatting about my experiences than maybe helping your specific issue. I think we are in for some serious speed upgrades in the next 12 months. The ability for 3d programs and AE potentially to access the computing power of our video cards is FULL of potential as far as speeding up renderings is concerned…

I love speed and this topic…
