Well, my faith lies in nVidia here.

    1. FX 4800 is end of line, will soon be unavailable
    2. Cuda pipes are roughly the same..I expect 20% performance increase.
    3. Its a slim card…space for the HDMI outlets of the Decklink 🙂
    4. Almost half price of the 4800

    Looking forward to it

But the question remains why Blackmagic is not using micro SDI connectors or a proper breakout cable like the Bluefish or DVS have.
Well, there is always room for improvement , as they say 🙂

Also consider Blackmagic or Ajas 10 bit YUV as weapon of choice, and dnxHD as intermediate for AVID people..
And yes, of course nice LOG cins and dpx are what you want if you got a proper raid.

I honestly think Apple is either waiting for the new generation of cards or developing the drivers as we speak.
The Quadro 4800 is so last year, or even the year before.
With the 480 you get double the amount of CUDA pipelines and that would really boost DaVinci.
I am also planing to Hackintosh as soon as I get my copy, but I think with the supported devices we are better off the next couple of month.

    I really need my sleep…
    8 hours a day…
And probably 15 at night 😉

Yes, thats the real question, isnt it .
The way i read it you can make and load DNxHD files, but you Unity has probably a lot of different flavors stored.

Well, that debayer would take 4 times as much CPU resources.
Anyone willing to chime in and do an actual test with S-RED 16 4K in all six qiality debayer modes ?

    Hey guys,

since Red updated the sensor and the camera firmware to 30.x it is quite impossible to play back RED files with the new color science in anything but quad res.
You NEED the rocket if you want real time performance and the capability to make good use of the high exposure, the full media and possible 4K of the Red file.
However , I tend to assemble from Red, export to DPX with handles and leave 10 percent head and tail room with either going 16bit tif or Redlog to preserve as much color information as possible.
I like using the DPX due to the fact i have to do a lot of picture in picture (boom in frame) or two pass gradings with home made glows and stuff.

  • CMX 3600 EDls dont hold dynamic speed ramps, only static speed changes and those should work on every system.
In those cases where footage is speed up we tend to make single frame cuts , those will work fine too.
But if quality is king, you want a good offline, timecode and Red name visually embedded and use Kronos/speedo/twixtor.
I tend to ask for non-speeded and speeded EDLs and always look forward to what the clients deliver 😉
