Well , I just dont belive everything I read.
When starting Resolve on my iMac I can loadup the entire UI, adjust project settings and start every other tab.
Loading an image crashes it of course. No Cuda, no cookies 😉
And that made me wonder , could I just keep the Ati in the MacPro and have fun with the amazing 32 Cuda cores the Gt 120 provides.
But I get it. I just follow Jean Baptist Emanuel Zorg’s words:
If you want something done, do it yourself . Yep

Well, I do picture-on-Picture stuff every day in Scratch and I can not live without it.
Fundamental compositing tools are a must, same as a planar tracker for some.
I use for fixing booms, replace skies, cover blemishes, scars, duplicate trees, simple degrain and so on.

Well, lets request something, for a change 😉
What if we INDEED could use an Ultrascope in the same Mac ?
I could live with the window version just being on the second output, sharing with the video image.
Or even better, lets say if you have an Ultrascope build in, DaVinci uses that one instead of the software/cuda based one in the application right now.
Or even better, hook up one of those little USB screens, show by the Foundry for their Storm thingy.
    https://www.thefoundry.co.uk/articles/2010/09/16/152/external-scopes-for-storm/
I would instantly shell out the money and buy the Ultrscope if that would be possible.
I dont like the of having a second computer just for that.
I would use my MacBookPro, yes, but USB3 was a weird decision at this point

Yeah, I am asked to actually come over to an edit house and work on their Red Giant Looks setup.
I spent two hours there fixing horrible butcher like settings and all they said was : Well, now we know what to do and please can you save your presets.

I think I should have become a carpenter or something 😉

Well, its not bad for 1000 bucks 😉
I think we have the same sort of discussion on the other boards, Scratch lacking the tracker, Lustre the timeline, Speedgrade clarity and so on.
But I was able to finish projects with most of them, heck, i even graded a short movie in Fusion once.
So what about an honest wish list ?
Something we can set up, manage and compare and the MB people can see what they can do about it.
Right now more and more clients tend to stay in FCP or AVID and use grading plugins to not loose the flexibility of their editing environment.
Thats my biggest worry right now. Not some tracker missing..
I use Monet if i need a really good one.

I rather spend the additional 1000 on a Ultrascope and a small PC for it.
Until BM gives us a Mac version.

November 23, 2010 at 1:25 pm in reply to: Resolve for Mac feedback from former Apple Color users?

Some wise man said once :
” Sound is 60% of the image ”
I totally agree its also important to be able to turn it off and listen to music.
But it really depends what i am listening too.
When i play Trentemoeller the images become dark and washed out.
If i am playing some funky house they look bright and colorful.
Sooo…its a very underrated topic I think, and we will go full THX for out new grading theater just because you also sell the images more easy when the music fits.
Especially when doing final approvals for commercials and other shows my clients demand sound and so do I.
Apple Color is not an option…Never was

Well, it will take a while until I am as quick , creative and effective as i am on my Scratch system, but I keep an open mind , even without 6 vectors and all the other goodies i am used too.
