Logitech G13 users – gather around please
Posted by Ola Haldor voll on November 23, 2010 at 9:51 amSo someone here was talking about using the Logitech G13, which got me into getting the same tool. I’ve been using the ShuttlePRO2 for years with Color, but always needed more buttons. The idea about using the G13 came as a blessing! Now you literally have 75 buttons (spread across three “pages”) to program just as you like.
But how is your setup? Where do you place what?
On the other pages I have almost the same setup, but they’re more specific to memories, stills, and dynamics instead of adding nodes and power windows. I’m starting to think I should rather distribute the specific tools like memories, stills and dynamics to one page and just leave the play controls on the first page… hmm.. Even 75 buttons aren’t enough when you reuse the shortcuts so much!

November 23, 2010 at 2:55 pmNice! Incidentally, is there a keyboard shortcut list anywhere? I can’t even figure out how to toggle grade on and off to compare to the original footage?

November 23, 2010 at 5:20 pmArrow up / down toggles this. Don’t know why it’s not listed in the drop down menu. Other things I’ve added is toggle between All/Color/PTZR (for keyframing) and Render.
You do that by
– System Preferences
– Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts
– Add DaVinci to the list and type the menu item exactly (upper and lower case in place) as it’s written in the menu and add a shortcut to it– In the Logitech key mapping software, make a new Macro, give it a name and type the shortcut you just made – and there you go!
I have added all kinds of shortcuts this way.

November 23, 2010 at 9:43 pmI have a project with the G13 I started, and have yet to finish.
My goal was to somehow get keys on the G13 mapped to memories currently only available by mousing if you’re using the Wave.
Using QuicKeys, you can map buttons on the G13 to actually perform mouse action macros, which is really only possible because very little on the Resolve GUI moves around with use. In particular the actual thumbnails in the stills gallery.
Anyway, I got as far as being able to recall memories using buttons on the G13 roughly mapped to the grid in the gallery, but soon thereafter realized I needed to do ANOTHER set of macros to be able to capture a still to a given memory (I was using the A-Z memories). At that point I put it down for another day and have yet to pick it up again.
At any rate, this was a very long way of saying that any G13 users should download QuicKeys, as it opens up the possibilities with that keypad greatly.

November 23, 2010 at 9:47 pmYep the g13 is a life saver since Wave support is still a bit lacking. Buttons I couldn’t live without on the fly are loop mode, and all the various add node/add outside buttons.

November 24, 2010 at 2:50 amAlong these lines has any one been able to find ‘Reset Grade’ in the Resolve GUI or Wave? I know it’s on the Davinci panel but have not been able to find elsewhere. Have simply been creating a new grade version as a work around but not so practical.
Cheers,

November 24, 2010 at 8:35 amAs a workaround, you could either save a still or save to a memory bank. I’ve assigned a button for “Delete node” too. Goes fast to just click-click-click.. All gone.

December 5, 2010 at 3:36 pmI got mine today and I am really happy with its look and feel.
I wonder if you guys wanna share some of the mappings you did.
My goal is to emulate most of the big panels actions and I won der if the little joystick could be used to emulate the big T bar or the encoder knobs on the real panel. -

December 5, 2010 at 10:06 pmNice work everyone.. I stumbled on the g13 while playing with scratch last year..
In Sept I plugged her into the resolve.. Nice time saver for sure..
I still haven’t had the time to map all the functions that are not on the keyboard.. Were missing quite a few key tools using the wave panel and keyboard shortcuts. Thats my next step..Unless my friends at black magic want to let me demo the real panels for a year or two… 🙂
On scratch we hooked up 3 g13 and 3 kingston trackballs to simulated a full panel.
It worked!!If I had the time and extra money I would love to build a one off set of custom panels..
