You, but you wont have space.
At least I dont, with all the other stuff in it.
But if anyone could point me to a proper one slot solution to get rid of the Gt120, I would be happy.
No, i am not thinking about get the 4000 yet 🙂

Actually, I think BM is very interested in us buying the big panel and thus I think efforts to support other external panels could be limited.
I also think AVID is kinda happy with its purchase and wants to make it exclusive for DS and/or Composer.
I am used to the big Tangent series at work and I kinda like it, but its also quite crude for the 16.000 you have to shell out.
The Wave has a much more clever layout for me and Resolves mapping is pretty decent.
I am still learning and would like to switch the one or other function to another place but I think its bang for the buck.
But yes its feels like its been built by Fisher Price.
SO…I am planing to find a CNC metal cutting company, scan the upper panel and ask them if it would be possible to carve that out from a block of aluminum .
Then I taper the lower part with a leather cover and fill the spaces inside with stone wool.
I am hoping to spend not more than 1500 bucks and get a kick ass, solid feeling, very functional controller.
I ll keep you posted when the project takes shape .

Which I second , of course.
I also miss the advanced copy and paste functions from Scratch where you can select what exactly you want to paste into the new shot.
Like only pasting scaling, Colors, windows and so on, with our without animation , relative to the shot timing or global.
That would be nice if that could be in the still memories..

    Interesting..
I am in the game for something like that too.
But I skipped IBC last year and are a little behind.
Next time I will have a look 🙂

    I totally second this.
I even would go so far and ask for a dedicated render setting and a playback setting.
In Maye you have stuff like that and it helps working in low res and rendering in highres without switching things manually.
And of course masks and stuff should scale accordingly

  • It probably does through them and creates thumbnails or something.
2008 and fullres is a problem.
    Even 2010 is.
Rocket would solve it, but only for processing and playback.
I am grading a feature on a machine with a rocket and we decided to process everything to 16 bit DPX with proper Redcolor2 and carefully selected head and tail room.
    Its just much more flickable.
I suggest you do the same and keep the Red files for safety.
But grading on them…well..the 10% real life quality gain you have to pay with 90% performance loss.

Well, you need like 200 Cuda cores for processing. that’s either a 285, 4800old or 4000new.
If you don’t need the system for premiere or color or anything else, the 120 will do. the Ati will be much better and a second 4000 with the display connected will greatly improve everything else that can use OpenGL and/or Cuda , like Sapphires or Vue

January 25, 2011 at 12:36 pm in reply to: 4000 vs fx 4800 vs 285

I have the 285 and its like 20% faster than the 4800.
The 4000 is even slower, but only uses one slot, you can add a 285 for processing AND then you have a good card for Premiere or anything else too.
Requires modding the power cable though 🙂
Cheap solution : ebay 285 (paypal) plus GT120 appleshop
Smartest solution : Dual Quadro 4000, 2000 bucks, great processing, fast UI
Best solution : Quadro 4000 plus Cubix
