Not that I ever used it, but my clients always go like : Ok, I like what you did here, no go half back to the original/last version/the reference.
For that to do I need a channel mixer, or adjustable blend modes or a wipe between two versions..A slice of color…

I am with Darin and the DPX files into folders.
You also want to assign time-code and reel IDs, maybe even before you do the ProRes files.
If you follow that route you will have perfect media to grade on and 100% working files for the editing which makes assemble afterward a breeze.A slice of color…

Yeah , the ATI card lets you open the app, warns a couple of times (who are we to listen to that 🙂 and then shows the nice interface.
thats how far I came on the imac too.
But as soon as any image processing is needed it just crumpled away.
I made the mistake to sell my ATI 5770 and not waited for the Quadro 4000.
I am ok with the GT120+GTX285 in Resolve, but for everything else, I suspect the ATi 5770+Q4000 is the much better combo.
I wonder if I could switch the GT120 for another one slot no power needed nVidia card.A slice of color…

No, I went from 6 to 24 last week and it feels the same.
But, I can keep other stuff like Storm or Nuke open at the same time with Ram previews loaded and Resolve is still happy.

I don’t really need real-time playback of 4 or more layers at the same time.
What I need is an interactive proxy or cache system that allows us to bake those blends and fades and picture superimpose into one DPX or EXR container in the background.
As soon as one is grading on one of those layered clips, Resolve should just use the native media, show the clip.
but as soon as one flips to the composite layer, Resolve could offer to either cache to RAM during the first playback and at the same time write it to disk.
This is how Flame, Smoke or Filmmaster maintain their real-time functions.
A clever cheat, but my clients are used to that way.

Its hard, especially after you had a demo on the other systems.
I am playing with the Storm beta myself and its very useful indeed.
The thing is, more ond more agencies dont bother to go to the post-house, just hire some intern to do the editing and thats why we get crappy FCP projects instead of proper EDLs those days.
I am seriously spending more time sorting garbage than actual grading for commercials.
And yes, YES .. I WANT A TOOL WITH A MULTITRACK TIMELINE , and I want it now.
But only for those people.
Every short film I get is fine, every music video and even the last features.
Its all about having time for a proper structure during shooting, ingest, conforming, creative work and finalizing.A slice of color…

Seriously , Resolve is miles away from being a commercials tool.
It’s a rock solid, kickass grading system for the price of a night out in Amsterdam.
But if you can’t charge the client the money for a Fkame, they don’t deserve one, period.
Do the “grading” in FCP , that’s fair enough I think.
Yes, I am talking to the other guys as well about multitimeline and XML and stuff .
I just don’t think it might happen here that quickly.
