As long as ATI does not implement CUDA, I dont think it will work ever.
Get an old one for Resolve on set.
But dont expect it to me great..32 CUDA cores in the old one.
But I have high hopes for the thunderbolt port now.
We just need a smaller one-card-solution case from Cubix or someone else and then you are all set.
It just depends if you can milk money out of a project NOW.

Yeah, I second that.
We have the same discussion of the other board and anything else than the way Apple Color already offers or even better, like Filmmaster does will not satisfy clients in the long run.
I was never a friend of those all-in-one systems like Mistika but I saw a guy grading in Flame on 15 different nodes and then doing a cut-down and playing those out to tape with multilayer audio…wow.
I felt a little….whimsical…next time I sat on my…Scratch.
Sorry for throwing around names, but if DaVinci would “inherit” some of those ideas it would be so lovely.
The core tools are so much better, it just feels a little dated and with some modern tools like XML import, OFX support and other goodies would be more than just the icing on the cake.

Well, the thing is I already had a DOP in here who just bought DaVinci to play around with his Alexa shots on set.
He then sent me his project file and when the client dropped by it took me half an hour to prepare the session.

Yeah, well, there is no wrong or right setting for this question.
It strongly depends what you got and where you want to go with it then.
So, lets assume you capture from a HDSR tape. then you need to know if the media was scaled or full on the tape.
If you capture scaled media into full range, you have lifted black levels and lowered white points.
If you capture full into scaled you clip it off.
Same goes for the other way round.
If you have full color levels in your source media and are supposed to deliver a digital product then scaling it is wrong.
But if you are planing to make a tape, then you need to do it.
And excuse my french, FCP is “la merde” for finalizing stuff because its really hard to convince it not to “help” you.
You either want to limit the FCP use to offline or audio fusion and either use Resolve or Smoke for the final product if color levels, integrity and speed are important.A slice of color…

..and yes, you should break em down either to shot based trimmed r3ds or DPX sources with DPX 16 which retains more than enough data to grade.
Personally, I only use the r3ds to make a technical “digital telecine” and go to DPX from there.
My workflow is much more based on VFX inserts than on an infinite flexible edit though.A slice of color…
