January 30, 2011 at 8:21 pmThe only Tangent device that works with Resolve is the Wave, and it is fairly unlikely that any others will be qualified. Its a USB/Ethernet thing.

You mean “Old Ben”? Ben Kenobi?

January 31, 2011 at 7:36 amIt’s not really a USB/Ethernet thing, as we are currently supporting the JL Cooper Eclipse panels, which are Ethernet based.
There are no plans to support legacy DaVinci Network panels on the Mac Resolve. Those will only work on the Linux Resolve.

January 31, 2011 at 9:01 amOn the subject of panels, is there a list of panels which are in the development stage of being supported? I’m thinking MC Color here, of which noone from either Avid or Blackmagic seem to want to discuss, all the communication i’ve seen on the subject seems to be a little hostile, which isn’t a good sign…

i dont know what to do, or buy a davinci resolve color panel and finish my budget,(davinci resolve in europe is 23.000euro plus tax) or a JL Cooper Eclipse and a good monitor.
for me the second option is more smart, but all the clients like to see big control panel in the room.

January 31, 2011 at 12:42 pmNobody seems to know what’s going on in regards of the MC Color. I had it for a two day demo in April last year. I loved it. But I can’t wait for it. If you like the Wave, go for that. I’ll be going the JL Cooper route.. What I’ve read about the Wave is “light” and “built in plastic”. Not my kind of investment. I want something that feels really solid.

January 31, 2011 at 1:59 pmI’ve had the MC Color since the beginning of 2010, I find it pretty good overall, programmable to your specific needs and has an advantage in feel and build quality for me over the Wave. I have no intention of switching to the Wave, perhaps the Cooper is the way to go, or if the jobs get big enough, the proper panels…
Gawd, it’s frustrating though, just sitting here at the whim of manufacturers with no information, if it’s no, then that’s cool, just tell us so we can get on with investment elsewhere.

If it were a matter of choosing between the two…I’d say a good monitor for sure over the full panels…

February 1, 2011 at 7:36 amActually, I think BM is very interested in us buying the big panel and thus I think efforts to support other external panels could be limited.
I also think AVID is kinda happy with its purchase and wants to make it exclusive for DS and/or Composer.
I am used to the big Tangent series at work and I kinda like it, but its also quite crude for the 16.000 you have to shell out.
The Wave has a much more clever layout for me and Resolves mapping is pretty decent.
I am still learning and would like to switch the one or other function to another place but I think its bang for the buck.
But yes its feels like its been built by Fisher Price.
SO…I am planing to find a CNC metal cutting company, scan the upper panel and ask them if it would be possible to carve that out from a block of aluminum .
Then I taper the lower part with a leather cover and fill the spaces inside with stone wool.
I am hoping to spend not more than 1500 bucks and get a kick ass, solid feeling, very functional controller.
I ll keep you posted when the project takes shape .A slice of color…

February 1, 2011 at 4:37 pmMake sure to get glass joyballs too. Haha. I’d be willing to dish out an extra grand to Tangent for a little JL Cooper build quality on the Wave.
