Actually I have to agree with the part of Vlackmugic not thinking the design through properly .
If you look at that giant breakout cable the 3D+ comes with, you might think , they also Coild finx a way to include HDMI IO Into it.
The card is working just fine, quality is top notch and usabilty too.
Just that extra bracket thing is in the way for most people in the mid range price level.
I did the cut and past with my eSata card to get to the goal too.A slice of color…

Ok, I confess, I am just a gear slut.
Same way I prefer an old Roland Jupiter over any virtual plugin, play my old 5 string bass more likely than using a synth, or loving my Jeep over a Prius, I prefer a proper well designed , cleverly engineered and gorgeously manufactured grading panel.
Geee, Sometimes we spent days and weeks at work, shouldnt it be fun and great to use ?
Now we can start the long sing and dance that the product counts and not the process, but I disagree.
My last client loved the way the panel worked and also that he understood the process and simplicity.
He even wanted to adjust a slider here and there and I could feel the joy and brought to him.
And its the same with me.
Or a lot of people I work with.

I was never a friend of cheap solution, workarounds or duct tape solutions.
My clients do about a proper work environment and feel save and believe we spent their money on equipment, not on a new Porsche.
Grading today needs to be speedy, precise, creative, consistent and , well, just human.
And a panel is the natural to he task.
I am not even a friend of re-mapping it, I prefer a structure you can learn and then be 100% ready at another facility.
Balls are one thing, managing stills is a another..
But What I really miss is jumping the node tree , jumping to shot numbers and so on.
My point stands…this is just a toy.A slice of color…

The Cubix will not speed up any playback, nor will a second GPU.
You should add a RedRocket if you need full HD or more playback from RED.
Alexa in its ProRes flavor plays just fine..two or three streams.
No experience with ArriRaw yet.
SO if money is there.

But even would be using Storm or REDCineX to truncate the RED files and only use the part you really need.
That normally eliminates another 90% of unused media if space is tight.A slice of color…

Well actually his remark is very well true.
Grading without (the)(a) panel its like drawing with your mouth.
I am not saying the iPad app is not a nice gadget and 5 minutes of fun.
I even would consider using the vWave a little.
But without the Panel, its much less controllable, precise, tactile and yeah, professional.A slice of color…

I don’t dont Doubt you can Run the Card just fine in your Mac with an external power supply .
The question is , how many Cuda cores are usable then.
If Osx or Dav limits it to 2xx then there is no gain.
I think if you have the need for a Cubix, you also find the funds.
I just had the pleasure working on a double 4000 system and it rocked my 16 node tree without a glitch.
I will try the same project now on my 120/285 system and compare.A slice of color…

Just to add my two cents, I would like to see another solution to the problem.
The current sliders don’t work like a virtual ball and it’s very hard to adjust them I a sensible way.
Balancing them out one after the other is like drinking a cocktail but every ingredient at a time…brrr 😉
But virtual balls also require you to look down or away from your image, position the mouse, grad em, look back to the image, move em slightly and go back to grab another.
If I would wish for a panel less method, I should point at Scratch where you just press a key and you whole image becomes one big color wheel and you can , well, scratch around to adjust color ON the image, not some tiny part of the ui.
But yes, if you make music, you need a mixer, if you drive a car , you need a wheel.
