    Hello,

I found and tested a very good app for IPad “keypad”.

Perfect for Davinci because you can create your personal interface with buttons and choose what kind of action it will do for each button.

You can even manipulate the mouse by giving it coordinates (0,0) and choose several actions to do at this place, perfect for contextual menus.

Then now, I don’t need the keyboard.

Enjoy. An IPad is less expensive than the Davinci control interface.:-)

i will never stop saying that davinci without the davinci control surface “””””is not Davinci”””””

i am not sayingn that without 30K investment you cannot be a colorist in Davinci , but i am saying that without having that you cannot “””live””” the real davinci experience (plus quite a bit of speed advantage , few extra features /keys combinations / and a desk that looks really pro the client )

Well actually his remark is very well true.
Grading without (the)(a) panel its like drawing with your mouth.
I am not saying the iPad app is not a nice gadget and 5 minutes of fun.
I even would consider using the vWave a little.
But without the Panel, its much less controllable, precise, tactile and yeah, professional.

Good find! It looks like there’s an “in app” purchase for more interfaces. It would be cool to see a version for Resolve (that you could modify).

It would be nice if they had something like the vWave app integrated. For instance, a swipe down would bring up the trackball interface. But first, we’d need Tangent to allow vWave to drive Resolve. It seems like it should be possible with Resolve’s ability to do remote grading. Again, my hopes are that someone from Tangent is trolling this forum…

EDIT: Sasha beat me to it by about 4 min 🙂

    Hello,

    I really don’t understand you… really.

My thread was about this solution, tested, and it works very well for us. We have the Wave and this Ipad app is perfect to complete our grading suite.

This thread is not about Ipad against DaVinci surface. If you have money to have it, bravo ! This thread is about something which can help to be more comfortable.

If you like to run after expensive material, it’s you choice, personally my clients are very happy and didn’t even notice I use a Wave and Ipad to work. For sure, they don’t come for my control surface…It’s not Hollywood here.

The app is “Custom Keypad”, and you can customize has you want.

[Gabriele Turchi] “i will never stop saying that davinci without the davinci control surface “””””is not Davinci”””””
    i “

You wish ! For me (apparently it’s a subjective thing) grading with a Wave is much closer to grading with the Davinci panel than grading without any panel. I’ve used in the past Davinci panel and Baselight’s Blackboard.

When I followed the International Davinci advanced course, nobody cared about the daVinci panel that was available, except for the two novice working in an ad agency that was about to buy the panel. We were debating about the usefullness of the panel, and the guys explained their clients wouldn’t understand if they did not have one, nore would they accept their prices.

Add to the Wave clever solutions such as Robin’s or Blase’s, and you’ve got something very productive.

Of course, you might still need a DaVinci panel if your clients expect you to have one. As Robin’s, my clients could’nt care less about my control surface.

Please Gabriele, Sacha, don’t discourage clever tips from our peers, they are very valuable, and if you feel the tips are worthless or too cheap for you just ignore them.

I was never a friend of cheap solution, workarounds or duct tape solutions.
My clients do about a proper work environment and feel save and believe we spent their money on equipment, not on a new Porsche.
Grading today needs to be speedy, precise, creative, consistent and , well, just human.
And a panel is the natural to he task.
I am not even a friend of re-mapping it, I prefer a structure you can learn and then be 100% ready at another facility.
Balls are one thing, managing stills is a another..
But What I really miss is jumping the node tree , jumping to shot numbers and so on.
My point stands…this is just a toy.

    I’m appalled…

Perhaps for advertising it’s interesting to work very fast and the Davinci surface is usefull for that… but most of my work is for fiction films (the same for Michaël I think), and my clients never ask me to go faster.

You speak about Human… This is a rhetoric answer. DaVinci surface won’t make you Human. Because if it’s the case, it means that to be Human you need to be assisted by computers (a big paradox).

We won’t be agree, but don’t believe you do a better job than us with DaVinci surface, it’s not true and uppity.

Ok, I confess, I am just a gear slut.

Same way I prefer an old Roland Jupiter over any virtual plugin, play my old 5 string bass more likely than using a synth, or loving my Jeep over a Prius, I prefer a proper well designed , cleverly engineered and gorgeously manufactured grading panel.
Geee, Sometimes we spent days and weeks at work, shouldnt it be fun and great to use ?
Now we can start the long sing and dance that the product counts and not the process, but I disagree.
My last client loved the way the panel worked and also that he understood the process and simplicity.
He even wanted to adjust a slider here and there and I could feel the joy and brought to him.
And its the same with me.
Or a lot of people I work with.
Proper gear makes us work better.
