Where do I find the Write On effect?
Use an expression to link them? You mean the pick-Whip?

… And a really big one: The auto-orient I seemd to made work, but the brush tool, with which I want to create the line behind the car gives me headache: I can just use it in the Layer Window of the Street Map itsself, but to see the locations, which I wrote on -> seperate layers, I need to see the full composition window, but then I cannot use the brush. What to do?

    Thanx in advance, Dave.

    Greetz,

    Hi Dave,

another one – I really forgot.
I have a little car moving on a Map. Leaving a trace of the way it did:

1.) How do I activate auto orientate?

2.) Easiest way to leave the trace?

    Thanx.

Very Confused Q indeed – too long rehearsal, followed by far too long time beyond the screen mixed up Mask and Shpae Layer in my Head. And I wanted to give a Mask layer a Colour Fill, instead of creating a Shape Layer.
Sorry, for the bothering – a black coffee brought me back on track.

    Thanx, Dave!

Yes, I think you right – it might be the 25p frame rate – specially for Crawl text.
I will try the horizontal blur – maybe that helps.

    Thanx a lot.

I do not think I fully understood each step – would you mind to explain more detailed?
How can I reveal the Brush before I drew something?

    Thanx.

It really is better. You do not want to edit in that file format. It’s highly compressed. If you are working in FCP, convert it to ProRes.

That’s a pitty, because Compressor is easy to use, and the result are a lot better.
I used to export also directly though FCP, but once I realized the difference in Q and Speed – I changed.
It will take you 1-2 hours and you will know all you need – and those 2 hours are worth the invested time.

The difference comes from the fact, that everything you masked out is true absolute black, while the space around your actress is not absolute black and contains naturally more grain. Try to push with Curves or Levels adjustment the blacks in your image more to black, so you come closer to the absolute Black of your masked area. Also Feather the Mask a bit more, so it’s crossfading and not so obvious.

    Did it help?

Mmm, I could only think of two things: Either ask the Adobe Director to re-export the Film in a different codec. Other option – try to convert the footage with Apps like MPEG Streamclip to a more workable format. MPEG 2 is not a good editing codec anyway.
