Hi Al, I am s switcher myself right now.

Would be great, since I also edited for 13 years on FCP and have to dive into a new software now.
Even though, funny enough, my first 2 years as editor I worked with PPro 1 back then. But it changed a little since then 😉

I think, that “Darth Vader’s Ashtray” is totally unfriendly to pros, since it’s an iMac like all in one box thing with no expansion options. If I’d be you (that’s what I am doing right now), get a HacMac, way cheaper and more powerful than the fastest current MacPro and you can expand it much easier in the future.

I just had a similar job not too long ago.
I did some side by side tests and I can tell you for sure ProRes LT for this is way enough, even for Color Grading.
I also realized, that MPeG Streamclip is good and fast, but has a tendency to darken the footage and shift the colors a bit. Just take that into account.

Ohh, the poor MiniDV getting such a beating here 😉 I still own a DVX-100B and despite it being a SD camera, in terms of picture quality, overall look and color feel, it still beats many of the small prosumer cameras out there. If you go on my site, you will see many clips shot with that Panasonic and people don’t believe it ain’t HD.
In your case, you can also try – if you have – Magic Bullets Frames Plus – it has a sub category for de-artifacting. Did work good for me at some times.
Other than that, try what Shane suggested and maybe treat the Blue Curves separately from the RGB one, to get the blue appearance down.

So, you are saying, that I should go for the cheaper solution, since the extra dollars spent won’t be visible?

Another BIG question, which I am sure you can answer: I am intending to get a AJA T-Tap for external monitoring. Now, until I have the money for a good Broadcast monitor, e.g. FSI, I wonder, if I get a good computer monitor and connect it over the T-Tap and callibrate it accurate with e.g. the Spyder, will it also serve as a temporary broadcast monitor or it’s inacceptable result?
