And what would be the cheapest and easiest solution, for some reliable video Monitoring during online & colour grading?
Connecting a monitor of a DV-Deck over FireWire will not work with HD.
Is the Matroz the cheapest solution around?

There is several ways to convert from and to NTSC:

1.) The most simple one, which I used a couple of times and the result is pretty good: I imported the footage onto a Timeline with the settings of the original footage and exported it into the settings I wanted.

2.) The Nattress one mentioned by Johne works very well.

3.) Friends of mine did it with Compressor and it was doing a good job as well.

4.)Download the App “MPEG Streamclip” – it’s for free – also working very nicely on NTSC Conversation (A great App panyway, if you want to convert DVD Footage back to Quicktime!!!!)

I exported it from FCP as follow:

Edit -> Export -> Quicktime Movie (not Conversion!) -> then I adjusted the settings there to the Codecs I mentioned above.

I experienced a similar phenomena: I exported a finished video clip – one in Uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2, in Uncompressed BlackMagic and in Appple ProRes HQ and all three of them looked very different.
I ended up choosing the Blackmagic codec for looking the most crispy, strongest blacks and best contrast.
But why? I still have NO clue!
Hope somebody can enlighten us!

Please, try to specify the problem a bit further – do you batch the time codes first and then batch capture it all together?
What is the capture settings? What scratch disc did you define – internal or external?
Did you in the preferences adjust the pre- and post-roll settings for capturing?

Try to be a detailed as possible.

Thanx. I will try this the next time – the shooting for this film is over.
And I personally just own a DVX100B. So I have to wait for another job with the EX series – then I will try.
If I desaturate the existing footage – the greenish is gone, but the flickering does stay.

Mmm, apparently with the new CS5 Ae and its possibility to control every channel for B&W Desaturation, it seems a much smarter idea to shoot in Colour anyway.

That is what I actually meant, that from a certain moment on, when I encountered this kind of architecture in the shooting, I set the Detail in the Menu to Off. and yet it left me with some dancing lines and fringing.
Can it be really from using B&W Filter Red?
