March 2, 2015 at 7:09 pm in reply to: Library is empty, (there are no available Volumes)

    Hi Ali,

What you describe sounds normal on a Windows system. Volumes are added to the Library by adding them to the Scratch Disks in Preferences > Media Storage, and a volume that is a scratch disk will show the blue globe icon.

If you’ve seen screen shots where the Library has a disk icon next to a volume, this was likely on a Mac system where there is a setting in the Preferences > Media Storage for “Show all mounted volumes in the Library.” When that is checked on, mounted volumes that are not scratch disks, such as removable storage for example, will show up with a grey disk icon.

If you’re able to add media from the Library, it sounds like all is well.

August 9, 2014 at 1:17 am in reply to: Davinci Resolve 11 Wow what a surprise

    Hi Frank,

I sent you an email a little while ago, but I wanted to follow up here for any other users who might possibly come across this issue. When the files were analyzed, it was determined that they are not adhering to the DPX 2.0 spec, which is why Resolve is misinterpreting them (or properly interpreting based on the data presented, if you want to look at it that way). I don’t have any information on what might differ in how DPX 2.0 files were flagged between previous Resolve versions and the current version, but the ideal solution would be to use files that are to spec. We have seen one other Odyssey 7Q user at this point who is reporting similar behavior, and it might be helpful to log this up to Odyssey as well for them to investigate what might be going on in the encoding. Hopefully this way you and other users can reach a lasting resolution.

When you choose one of the “Final Cut Pro” Easy Setups in the current Resolve 10, the resulting XML will be a .fcpxml used in FCP X. You can achieve a .xml file by choosing “None” in your Easy Setups and manually selecting your desired Output options. After the render finishes, navigate to the Edit page and choose File > Export AAF/XML. This will open a dialog where you can choose your file name and location and also choose the type of file you wish to export. The current options as of this post include: *.aaf, *.xml, *.fcpxml (1.2), *.fcpxml (1.3), and *.edl.

This is also discussed in the current Resolve manual in Chapter 11 “Exporting Timelines to Other Applications.”

For OS X 10.8.5 users, please try CUDA 6.0.37 with the current NVIDIA web driver for your GPU as opposed to the OS X driver version. You can download the NVIDIA Driver Manager to update your drivers and switch between web driver and OS X driver.

  • Hi Nat,

Sorry for the delay but I just came across this post. Spatial NR does work in track mode, but Temporal NR does not. I think Temporal NR might be limited to Clip mode due to the way the frames are analyzed, but in any case this is expected behavior.

    Hi Nat,

CUDA 6.0.37 should generally be okay, but it might be worth a roll back to 5.5.28 just as a test.

  • Hi Den,

The feature Chad is referring to is related to the SDI output on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, not the Thunderbolt output. If you would like to connect the SDI of the camera directly to the SDI input on the ATEM, the steps Chad lists are relevant. If you are using Media Express to capture clips over Thunderbolt, this will always be a progressive capture in the frame rate your camera is set to record to.

If you are looking to playback clips that were recorded on the Cinema Camera through some sort of I/O that connects to the ATEM, you will need to adjust the video format through either a hardware solution, like the Teranex Richard mentioned, or a software solution, like an NLE.

In regards to the Teranex’s Thunderbolt connection to a Windows system, if you head over to the Products page on ThunderboltTechnology.net, you’ll note that there are several Windows systems currently available with Thunderbolt built-in. This is not a Mac-only technology any longer.

October 31, 2013 at 12:58 am in reply to: 29.97 Output from Premiere

    Hi Jonathan,

From our conversation in August, we determined that the DeckLinkPresets.zip contents were not installing on your system, leaving Premiere CC to only use the IntensityPresets.zip contents for your Sequence Presets. At that time in our office, we had not seen any instances where only a portion of the presets for CC were installing and I listed steps for you to manually install the remaining presets on your system to provide the 1080p29.97/30 sequences you were looking for. However, you still were unable to output 1080p29.97/30 through your Intensity. This information was passed up to be looked into on our end.

You’re now on Premiere CS6 rather than CC? We have a new MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9 Mavericks, so to replicate your setup on a fresh system, Premiere CS6 was installed on this system followed by an Intensity with Desktop Video 9.8.1. In this situation, all presets were loaded and Premiere’s sequence settings look the same as the screen shot Bret posts here. However, if for some reason the presets did not copy over automatically, you may manually copy the presets over yourself as we discussed previously. I will include these steps again here for everyone’s information. These are the same for Premiere CS6 and CC.

Location of BMD plug-in and Sequence Preset files:
/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Blackmagic DeckLink/CS6

Copy the plug-in files listed below into the following location:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS6/MediaCore/

    Our plugin file names:
    DeckLinkDevice.bundle
    DeckLinkFileImport.bundle
    DeckLinkRecord.bundle (or IntensityRecord.bundle for Intensity)
    DeckLinkTransmit.bundle

Locate the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.app file and righ-click and select “Show Package Contents” to see the folder structure within. Copy the Blackmagic Editing Modes.XML file into the following location:
/Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CS6/Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.app/Contents/Settings/Editing Modes/

Copy the SequencePreset folders found in DeckLinkPresets.zip and/or IntensityPresets.zip into the following folders:
/Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CS6/Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.app/Contents/Settings/SequencePresets/

This should then allow Premiere to access all the Blackmagic sequence presets.

We also tested HDMI output from the Intensity with a Blackmagic 10bit YUV 1080p29.97 sequence. To our Panasonic HDTV, the 1080p29.97 signal was not seen, though other video formats were. When we tested from other sources at 1080p29.97 to the TV as well, we saw that this television does not appear to play nicely with this video format.

We then tested the Intensity output to other devices such as a capture card and also converted from HDMI to go into an SDI monitor. These additional devices took the signal without issue. We would certainly advise confirming that your monitor accepts this video format. Not all HDMI monitors will, and it’s possible that the signal coming out of the Intensity is not being picked up there.

October 24, 2012 at 4:33 pm in reply to: Decklink Drivers

    Hi Jim,

It does look like the site is down at the moment. If you could send us an email at support-usa (at) blackmagicdesign (dot) com I’ll see if I can get you the version of the driver you’re looking for. If you’ve only uninstalled Final Cut and now wiped your entire system, you should be able to go to your System Prefs and open the Blackmagic Design settings and see your driver version number at the top of this window. To get everything talking to FCP once more, you’ll have to uninstall and reinstall this (the uninstaller is contained in the install package).
