    Hi,
Yes, i discovered this almost 3-4 years back when i was experimenting with tv out of my cheap nvidia dualhead card. the quality is unexpectedly very very good.May be depends on graphic card to car. Just remember to keep the flicker filter to minimum.(default is somewhere in middle). This will show increased flicker for desktop on tv but video output will be best. if you need quality use component or s-video out. You really dont loose quality on conversion as you may loose on cheap hardware conversion.(Otherwise tmpeg option is fine). Any way I guess the original footage discussed here is dv. You dont loose also on timing 1 min of footage on any format will be 1 min.
I use this feature mostly to convert ntsc to PAL.

    Hi,
Here are two cheaper ways of doing the above job.

First the required out put was a PAL dvd. So you can just take trial ver. of tmpeg or canopus pro coder. give it the NTSC file and choose PAL template. or choose output template as PAL. You will get a very high quality PAL mpeg2 or 1 as required. The quality will be much better than any cheap studios can give. only a good quality snell and wicox may match

    Second

If you happen to have a dual head video display card with tv out function( Matrox g550 or nvidia 6600 etc). Then choose PAL as the out put format of the secondry monitor out.( You will get under display settings –> advanced settings) the secondry monitor might have an composite, s-video or component out. Use this out to feed to you PAL camera or recorder.( You need to use dvd max settings on g550 or video mirroring on secondry display on others.
The above two methods works very well. I have used many a times.

    good luck

    Hi,
Set “interlace” as source of footage. You need not deinterlace. check on tv monitor not on computer monitors Or through a dvd player. Computer monitor will show interlace lines.
You need to check in settings and specify “interlace” not progressive as source media type. De interlace will soften the footage badly

    Hi,
You have to use aftere ffects to create the correct alpha and then import to premierepro or any other editing/compositing software. You need to work similarly on afx just on one frame and press “ctrl alt s” to save that frame as photoshop 32 bit file with alpha. I dont think so photshop can create the required alpha.

    Hi,
I am not sure, but please check capture settings, playback video and audio on desktop should be checked on for both preview and capture.
Or try changing ver. of the drivers

October 17, 2005 at 3:49 pm in reply to: Problems with 5.2 drivers

    Hi,

I’ll send my nfo file tomorrow. I am working on an uncompressed 10 bit pal decklink project not a dv project. I just go to dv project to capture around 10-20 dv clips. and then replace them in my 10bit project.

One project i could use the 5.1 driver and decklink uncompressed project to capture dv clips. but not anymore.(capture window says cant activate recorder) I had the outsync problem on that project also.

the crashing problem was faced only on 5.2 drivers. 5.1 is ok. but outsync during mastering is only solved in 4.8 drivers. though if i assemble edit with 4.8 the system will put some ng frame as the first frame and rest of the master will be fine.(i.e if i master from 10:00:00:00 my actual master will start from 10:00:00:01 and rest will be ok.10:00:00:00 will be an ng frame) this delay problem is not there in 5.0,5.1 &5.2 drivers. Insert edit is accurate.

    my system config is
dell sc1420 server. decklink extreme on pci-x slot. 2×2.8 ghz xeons. 1.5 gb ecc ram. 2x 250 gb western digital sata disk configured as raid 0 on embedded raid card. (get around 96 fps with decklink disk speed utility for 10 uncompressed bit project). 80 gb sata drive as boot drive. 16 mb ati pci graphic card which came with the system. xp service pack 2. the mb is 7520.
my memory usage during mastering is 700-800 mb and cpu usage in 15-20 %.

p.s i tried using my array or external drive as audio drive, the sync issue was there on both cases. I also tried clean reinstalling my whole system.
    thanks

    Hi,
I did not use ver 5.0 for long. i just used it to master my show & sync loss was there. so i reverted back to 4.8. There were no crashes on 5.1 drivers as described with 5.2 drivers.

    thanks

  • Hi,
The switch actually sets the deck to take the input ref video (sync) from the video input signal or an exernal refernce input. If the switch is not proper you may get channel conditions error.
Is your audio too high in premiere project. ideally keep the dgbeta rec levels at defaults and set the audio levels from fcp or ppro. if levels are too high you will get crackled and dropped audio

    Hi,
went back to ver 5.0 today. I have an out sync problem during mastering. so rolled back to ver 4.8.( I have the out sync problem with 5.1 & 5.2 also) That problem is there as a seprate post. 4.8 did seems to solve the out syn problem.

    thanks

October 15, 2005 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Audio Sync problems

    HI,
Today i took out four masters without any sync problems with 4.8 drivers. but on assemble edit the first frame is either wrong or repeated and the whole master get’s delayed by 1 frame (audio & video Both). this problem is not there in ver 5.1 & 5.2 drivers.

Next project i’ll try ver 5.0 drivers.

    thanks
