I rented a sound package from an audio guy who really knows his stuff. He has Lectrosonics, but the package I rented was using just a Sennheiser evolution 100(?) transmitter/receiver with a Tram mic.
I would definitely prefer a Lectrosonics package, but for someone on a budget, a Tram mic with a less expensive transmitter/receiver package might be a “good” option.

I would correct your statement to say, “great wireless mics and $400 don’t go together”. Lectrosonics is high end and they sound great, not just good.
I might suggest buying a decent wireless kit, but then upgrading the mic to a Tram. I just used one this past week end and I think they sound great.

If you’re mixing AVID and FCP I would recommend Automatic Duck. If all you want to do is capture from AVID then export those clips to QT for editing in FCP, that should work, but I don’t think you’d want them as reference movies pointing to the AVID OMF. I guess that would put them in the AVID QT codec which isn’t FCP friendly.

So you shot your footage at 60P and you want it to be slow motion at 24P? I haven’t used the frame rate converter for a while, so I’m not sure I can help you with that.
What I do is open the clip in Cinema Tools and then conform it to 23.98. This works great, but you have to make sure that your footage is true 60P and not 24 or 30 with duplicate frames to make 60P.

Do you mean making the top of an image curved instead of straight? You could try a bulge filter. I would take it into Motion or AE.

During the install, you can select what applications you upgrade. You can also choose not to install certain programs if you want.
I don’t know if applications from different releases will play nicely together, so I wouldn’t try to keep FCP5 but use Compressor 3 or something like that.

So even though it says that your footage is 30P, you should double check to is if it is actually interlaced or progressive. Easiest way to do that is to put it up on a broadcast monitor and pause on a frame.
It’s possible that FCP 6.0.3 fixed a problem that it previously had. I don’t know if it was a problem before.
Just let use know if it’s actually interlaced or not.
