  • How to use OMF Files with FCP?

I had an idea and wondered if it would work.

I use AVID at work and FCP at home. AVID creates OMF files when capturing or importing footage. FCP uses Quicktimes.

Could I export all of my AVID clips as QT References and then take my media drive home and import the QT Refs into FCP and they will link up to the OMF files on an external drive?

Or is there an easier way to use capture footage from AVID in FCP?

    ???

If you’re mixing AVID and FCP I would recommend Automatic Duck. If all you want to do is capture from AVID then export those clips to QT for editing in FCP, that should work, but I don’t think you’d want them as reference movies pointing to the AVID OMF. I guess that would put them in the AVID QT codec which isn’t FCP friendly.
