Are you saying that you are going to export the DVCPROHD to beta sp?

I would use Nattress Standards Converter to add a 2:3 pulldown to the 23.98 footage and either convert it to 1080 using the same plug in or compressor.

Uncompressed HD (full raster) has square pixels. 1280×720 or 1920×1080.

HDV does not have square pixels. 1440×1080

DVCPRO HD doesn not have square pixels 1280×1080 or 960×720

I don’t deal with HDV footage, but with DVCPROHD, the only time I’ve had an issue is when I’m exporting a still graphic from video. It comes out 960×720 and I have to strech it to 1280×720.

The computer seems to take care of the rest of the adjustments.

This is the same mindset that I’ve had, but with Motion 3 coming around, I need to get over it and learn how to be effective just popping in and out of Motion quickly. It’s too good of a tool to avoid.

Putting clips that are H.264 compression in a DV timeline isn’t a common editing practice. I might suggest using QuickTime Pro or Compressor to convert these clips to DV files, then import them into FCP. I think it would end up being easier to work with that way.

As far as varying render times, are all of the h.264 files compressed the same? Same frame size, frame rate, quality?

Is ProRes YUV? Did you have any sort of color shift or gamma shift when converting RGB to ProRes?

Did you try to use a garbage mask? Or you could send the clips into Motion and have a lot more power there.

I like to use Compressor to downconvert from HD. If I were you I’d down convert to DV50, 8-bit or 10-bit uncompressed, or ProRes if you have FCP6.

Here are the settings I created in compressor:
