Square v Rectangle Issues in HD?
Posted by Mike K. kroesen on May 23, 2007 at 4:45 pmAre there still computer versus video frame dimension issues when it come to HD? and HDV in particular?
For example SD DV NTSC is 720×480 but when it goes to Photo Shop or AE it needs to be 648×480. Does the same rule apply for HDV? Is 1280×720 need to be 1248×702 when it goes to Photoshop or can it stay at 1280×720?
Thanks,
Mike

May 23, 2007 at 4:58 pmUncompressed HD (full raster) has square pixels. 1280×720 or 1920×1080.
HDV does not have square pixels. 1440×1080
DVCPRO HD doesn not have square pixels 1280×1080 or 960×720
I don’t deal with HDV footage, but with DVCPROHD, the only time I’ve had an issue is when I’m exporting a still graphic from video. It comes out 960×720 and I have to strech it to 1280×720.
The computer seems to take care of the rest of the adjustments.

May 23, 2007 at 8:00 pmI guess you could do PhotoJPEG, Animation, or really any codec at full raster, but I guess I’m talking about commonly used or distributed formats.

May 24, 2007 at 2:46 amThanks for the info. Any idea how come when I open up HDV 720p 24 footage in quicktime and select Get Info it shows this info 1280 x 720 (1248 x 702) under the format section. What does the 1248×702 numbers represent?
Thanks,
Mike
