This is not the solution to your question, but wanted to mention:
you can do the roto within mocha AE, then paste the rotospline directly into the AE mask layer. No need to link mocha tracking to AE solids. Paste mocha shape to mask channel.

October 8, 2013 at 3:11 pm in reply to: After Effects Before Professional Color Correction?mocha AE comes bundled with Adobe After Effects CC. However, if you are cutting in Final Cut Pro X, than you may also want to check out SliceX powered by mocha from CoreMelt.com
This is a $99 plug-in that does the shape masking, tracking and blurring all within the FCPX timeline. For long form project cut on FCPX, this could be the most efficient way to blur faces.
Hope this helps,

October 8, 2013 at 3:04 pm in reply to: Smoothing Shakey Footage Without Warp Stabilizer?mocha Pro has a stabilization module based on planar tracking. You can choose to lock down a shot OR smooth based on X,Y, rotation, scale and perspective. You can also select anchor frames to define what frames are smoothed the most. One highlight about this workflow is the user can stabilize based on select areas of the frame.
The mocha Pro stabilize module can render out finished frames OR export to After Effects, Nuke, Autodesk, etc.
Alternately, there is a manual way to use the bundled mocha AE and AE to smooth camera motion. This is an old tutorial but the concepts of importing track data, than using the AE smoother to edit the keys is still relevant. https://youtu.be/dq59Ua8THws
Hope this helps.

September 23, 2013 at 8:51 pm in reply to: Digital bruising and swelling in After effects (and clothing removal)Hey there,
mocha should really help for the tracking on a project like this.In this tutorial, Ben Brownlee, shows how he uses mocha shapes to drive a warp reshaper:
https://www.imagineersystems.com/videos/ben-brownlee-presents-mocha-pro-and-ae-workflow-at-ibc-2013/viewFor a general purpose beauty tutorial, check out thsi video:
https://www.imagineersystems.com/videos/webinar-digital-makeup-retouching/viewYou can use the mocha pro insert tool for mesh warp displacement OR export the data and comp in AE.
Best of luck,

There are many videos that cover mocha tracking at imagineer systems’ website. Car tracking is quite easy for mocha as it uses “planar tracking”.
What you will want to do is draw shapes around various objects on the car, than hit track. Then refine the shapes and export out as After Effects masks (edit>paste mocha mask).
Best of luck,

Have you submitted support case? https://www.imagineersystems.com/videos/support
Can you “paste mocha mask” to see if the problem is related to the mocha shape plug-in?

Hi Mac,
There have been some good replies to this thread already, but to add a little…mocha AE v3 & mocha Pro v3 have a 3D camera solve module that is a bit different than the 3D feature tracker found in AE and most 3D tracking apps. Most 3D trackers search all pixels, then the user selects which are valid track data.
The mocha camera solver is based on “user selected planar tracking”. The difference is really in the workflow and “sometimes” the type of shots that you can solve. Where mocha can shine is on very difficult tracks (like tracking out of focus & obscured areas) or as Roland mentions, moving object solves.
The AE 3D tracker is really excellent for most all purpose 3D solving but as Todd mentions, does not expose the user to many advanced features found in more robust applications like Syntheyes or PFTrack, etc.
mocha’s camera solve was designed to be very easy to use and to take advantage of the power of planar tracking. For years, customers asked for mocha to export 3D. The intent is not to compete with 3D tracking, but to offer an alternate methodology and approach. Sometimes this approach will be very fast and useful, but I do not believe that there is really any “one solution” for all 3D tracking challenges.
Lastly, if interested: mocha AE v3 exports to AE camera only, while mocha Pro adds FBX support to export to C4D, Maya, Nu ,Flame, etc.
Here you can find a recent tutorial on mocha 3D solver for Cinema 4D workflow:

It is possibly that the tracking related to the mask was doing something strange. If you look at the surface in mocha and see the corners crossing, this could be the issue.
If you ever see issues like this, it is best to contact the mocha support team direct: https://www.imagineersystems.com/contact_form

June 20, 2013 at 6:06 pm in reply to: shooting computer monitors – live images or add in post?Hi Ryan,
Just came across your post. I would highly recommend mocha which is a planar tracking software bundled free with After Effects OR available as a stand alone called mocha Pro.For tracking in screens, mocha excels and very often you do not need green screens or markers. This can be most useful for compositing back in reflections for realism.
This is a link found on the mocha site of a Conan O’Brien spot with tons of difficult screen replacements: https://www.imagineersystems.com/case-studies-folder/big-sky-effects-tracks-any-device-on-conan/
You can also find may free tutorials to help get started.
Lastly, Hollywood Camera Work has a nice video that explains how to shoot for planar tracking at the bottom of this page link:

SliceX does not export the track data. If you are looking to get planar tracking data to Motion, than you could use mocha AE v3 which supports After Effects CS3-CS4, Final Cut v7 and Motion. mocha AE v3 also includes a free plug-in to get mocha mask data to FCP7 for those still working on it.
There are a few tutorials that cover this here: https://www.imagineersystems.com/videos?tagFilter=import+to+Apple+Motion&sortBy=Newest
