Nice! 🙂 Do all video pros watch family guy? I have yet to walk into a studio or edit suite and have someone not know a line from Family Guy. THE best show on TV right now. Nip/Tuck is a close second.

So…PCIe, what does that mean for people who just bought Kona LH– like me?
Not that I’m about to run out and buy a quad, but is there a trade up/buyback in place?

Personally, I’m waiting for the G6 IBM/Intel (whatever) units.

[Clay Walker] “I just wish someone would track down Job’s quote from about a year ago when the photo iPod was released of him emphatically stating that that the iPod would never be a video playback device…”

I don’t think he’s convinced yet. I watched some of his interview on CNBC and he admits he does not know where or if there is a market for a video iPod. So this is a gamble for them. They will always market the iPod as an MP3 device with “video as a bonus.”

Which raises another question….what codecs will it support….and how much battery life can you expect when playing videos?

I’ve seen radio stations premiere songs from iPods that record execs and artist bring in to radio interviews.
Like Steve Jobs said, this is an untapped market… unlike the Walkman, I think WE will decide how a video iPod will be used.
I can definitely see this as an on-location tool for clients who need to see video clips. Reference clips, demo reels in your pocket, sample clips…at 60GB you can definitely transport clips to and from locations (I think some people do this now).

Finally, I can tell my wife to get me one for Xmas.

[Paul] “As far as legacy Cinewave clips are concerned can the Kona handle them? I know the decklink HD Pro can handle the old cinewave codec.””

    Hey Paul,

I just made the switch to the Kona LH… Walter and many other people on this forum answered a lot of questions for me. After looking at AJA, Blackmagic, and Aurora, I settled on AJA for the reasons you read about now. I’ve had the system up for 3 or 4 days now and I can tell you it was definitely the right move. I need to maintain HD readiness, but an analog workflow for broadcast. The KonaLH with iO LA was the right move. The Kona2 is great as well if you need the extra HD features.

Cinewave files playback smoothly on KonaLH. I had a few files left over from Cinewave that I was able to playback with no issues…including HD and SD files. Combustion and other third-party apps work a LOT better with the Aja too.

    Enjoy.

[Walter Biscardi] “Did you discuss that one with Tech support? As long as a video source is running through an input, you will see displayed what type of source it is. I.e. 720p/60 or whatever the source is.”

Thanks Walter, I’ll give tech support a call. That’s exactly the problem, it doesn’t display the input source…BUT it does display the output. That’s why I think it might be a bug, or something that may require a reinstall. The only input that changes is the reference which correctly displays 525i29.97 and “no video” when I disconnect the line. Weird… but its all working 🙂
BTW…I see the same behavior in the IO panel as well. Maybe related in some way?

[John McCalmont] “VERY impresed to say the least, we had our new LH card intergrated and editing in 1 day! Does anybody know were I can unload 3 ciniwave HD systems????”

Glad to hear I wasn’t the only one. Again, all is working…it’s just not being reflected in the Control Panel. I don’t have HD equipment here right now so I can’t test your “everything in” theory, but I’ll keep that workflow in mind.

As far as offloading your Cinewave…Ebay!!! Or find an old G4 and put it in there. It will still be a great log and capture or spare online setup if you need it. I plan on putting my Cinewave back in my G4 for that very application.

    Take care.

ALSO…despite running video into the LA, and seeing that the LA “sees” the signal, the control panel still says “No Video.” Further proof that I think I might have done something wrong.

    Thanks

September 28, 2005 at 12:21 pm in reply to: Kona LH and it’s analog and SDI outputs

I get mine today…but the outputs, according to what I’ve read and this forum, are configurable for either of the three formats: S, Component, or composite. If you need more than one of these at any one time, you need convertor boxes, or the ioLA which has multiple outputs hot all the time.

We’re all coming from Cinewaves…. this is one feature we will ALL miss. Maybe with enough noise, AJA will make a BOB similar to Cinewaves ProAnalog, or Aurora’s PipePro. Although some on this forum question its validity. I’m glad I’m not the only one. Waveform/Vectors, multiple decks, are great arguments for addition I/O for the Kona line.
