Apparently they’re shipping, but no one has it yet.

I’m with you Drazen…I’m in the US and purchase from B&H (NYC)…they told me its on order, but have no idea when it will arrive. They say items from AJA never come as promised… probably due to the quantity they order.
Would have loved to have it for my next gig, but I’ll be patient. -
Thanks Tony!
Coming from a Cinewave, the LH is actually what I was waiting for from AJA. I really don’t need to up-convert SD video to HD. IF anything, my broadcast and corporate workflow require everything in SD. I also don’t work with any dual-link formats…so as I see it, I will be buying a card that is geared towards the HD post market, when I really don’t need it.
Right now 95% of my work is SD…5% HD.HD readiness is important though with these new HDV formats. But my bread and butter is in SD.
I would bet that 60%+ of the people who buy Kona2 boards are working in HD on at least 50% of their jobs.
However, in the future I can easily build another room based on the Kona2 if I need to and my work calls for it.Ron

I plan on making the same move very soon! As I indicated in a post below, I was about to buy the Kona2 when the LH announcement came out. I will also be replacing a Cinewave…and moving it back to my old G4.
As far as Targa clips, what I plan on doing while I have the card in my G5, is transcode it all to the Apple 10bit codec.LH seems to be the right move if you do more SD than HD. I need to maintain HD readiness, but 90% of my work is SD, so this should be a good move.

[Walter Biscardi] “Except the CineWave Pro D&A BOB which does not have S-Video I/O”
Yeah, but I also have the ProAnalog which has everything already…as you already know.
[Walter Biscardi] “If you really need / want the separate input for each, then you would probably be best off staying with one of the other three products you mentioned”
Ok, you know that’s not an option! 🙂
Trust me I’m not complaining, and your suggestion about routers is a good one. When I move to the Kona, I’m trying to move with the LEAST amount of disruption to my setup. I know I will have to sacrifce some of the convienences I enjoy now.
I still need full SD functionality as well as HD readiness. So the LH is the best choice.I appreciate the feedback. thanks.

Interesting!! You just described an old bug fix.
4 channel output has been fine since FCP4.x (before 4.5 if I remember correctly).
Only thing I can think of, other than upgrading software, it preference trashing or a complete reinstall of FCP5. -
[gary adcock] “the KL box does have all of those? SDI, Composite, Comp, S, 4 AES/EBU / 4 analog channels)”
no, it doesn’t. If you want composite or y/c, you need to configure the outputs of the ports. There is one component video output…3 connectors.
Component/Composite/S Video Input (3x BNC)
Component/Composite/S Video Output (3x BNC)
Cinewave, PipeStudio, DPS, and others have separate inputs/outputs for each, and in most cases ALL outputs are hot all the time.
Again, this comes in handy if you do VHS approvals, run external scopes, multiple decks, etc…
The only thing gained with the KL-Box is an extra set of RCA outputs. -
[Tim Langston] “What about mixed formats on the same timeline….did I miss that? Please tell me I missed that.”
If you missed it, I missed it too, because I didn’t see anything about mixed codecs. Still the only remaining advantage Cinewave has over other cards. But rumors have it that this will be native in FCP.
And if Avid did it in their lines, I’m sure Apple will follow. One other observation, while the KonaLH is the new “must-have” card, after reading through all of the info, I’m still disappointed that AJA hasn’t introduced or upgraded their BOB’s. Cinewave and Aurora Pipe Studio has the right idea when it comes to I/O connectivity. Rather than share the KL box, AJA should introduce a new box with ALL inputs and outputs (comp, s, component, SDI, etc…).
If you’re running component dubs and need to run VHS approvals, for example, you still have to fiddle with cables and connectors unfortunately…because the three analog formats still share the same three BNC connectors. oh well…I guess with the money you’re saving with the LH, you can pick up SDI to s,composite,y/c convertors.Ron
