Thinking about the IOLA as a stand-alone addition with the KonaLH. Can anyone confirm whether or not all outputs are active when the unit is setup as a stand-alone box?
I think this IS the case with the IO box, but its not clear if the LA does this as well.

    Thanks

    Hi-

All of the outputs on the IoLA are always active, even in stand-alone mode. This is the case on all three Io models.

    Thanks,

Personally, I would get the Kona 2 and Io LA, not the Kona LH and Io LA. With the Kona 2 you can up-convert analog video to HD (using the Io LA in-between the Kona 2 and the analog sources).

    Thanks Tony!

Coming from a Cinewave, the LH is actually what I was waiting for from AJA. I really don’t need to up-convert SD video to HD. IF anything, my broadcast and corporate workflow require everything in SD. I also don’t work with any dual-link formats…so as I see it, I will be buying a card that is geared towards the HD post market, when I really don’t need it.
Right now 95% of my work is SD…5% HD.

HD readiness is important though with these new HDV formats. But my bread and butter is in SD.
I would bet that 60%+ of the people who buy Kona2 boards are working in HD on at least 50% of their jobs.
However, in the future I can easily build another room based on the Kona2 if I need to and my work calls for it.

does this include firewire? I’m wondering whether the IO could work as a convertor to feed AVID XPRESS pro (DV25) as well as FCP or do I need to look to convergent design for that??

    Hi-

No, the Io’s will not work in this way. Our Firewire 400 connectors carry uncompressed data, for use with Final Cut Pro, etc.
