Excellent point…. 1st generation computers are always buggy. And as nice as the Intel machine is on the iMac, I was a little disappointed that we didn’t see higher processor speeds (above 2.5Ghz, etc…). I don’t know all the technical stuff, but its still a fast machine…and I think it will only get faster once they move to the desktop models.
I feel your pain…I bought the family a iMac for Christmas. Photo Booth was a big hit at our New Years party 🙂
I don’t plan on making any money with the iMac, so I’m not too mad. I didn’t think the iMac would receive the Intel chip. I fully expected new laptops and desktops…considering the iMac with iSight was recently released. Oh well.I run a small business so I’ll wait for extensive feedback from the FCP community. I guarantee only ROCKY ROADS ahead. New computers, New Hardware, New OS…. be prepared for major updates and upgrades similar to the OS9—> OSX transition.
I think it took 6 months to a year before all video components would work right under OSX. Capture cards, Video Cards, External hardware, software, Plugins, ALL NEED TO BE ON BOARD!!!!Relax, and enjoy what you have now!! Save your money!

I agree…S-Video at the least. I use this setup with a DSR20.

Yes, and Yes.
Just make sure your settings are correct and Kona/FCP will do the rest. -
True indeed!!!
The show I cut is shot on DVCPRO50 using the SDX900. Beautiful stuff!
Match the 900 with a 100 and a great DP, and you really get some of the best stuff on air.Ron

Nope…one of the sacrifices, unfortunately.
I went from Cinewave to KonaLH. Besides the few missing features (on-board RT, multiformat TL, and ALL formats BOB) the jump to Kona is worth it.
I had to change my workflow slightly to accomodate the missing features…but all is well. Peace of mind is worth the price to convert.

You’re right…I think that’s what I meant to say.
But as for FCP generating TC, that would be a nice feature…where a crash record could read video, audio and timecode from a timeline. I think DPS Velocity does this.

Lot’s of good posts here and Matt, you’ll never get a straight answer.
Like many people said, it IS more expensive to work in HD. So you should charge for it.Google the net to find an Excel file that offers production rates by filling out different variables… things like insurance cost, maintenance, equipment costs, operational costs, etc… After you fill out the cells, it calculates your rate.
I can’t put my hands on it now, but I know it exists. It was how I figured out my rates.
We’re all trying to make money in this FAST changing business that suffers for lower and lower budgets. If you have a skill that no one else has, charge for it!

This is actually the easiest and best way to stripe. FCP generates the TC.

[Wolf] “Are you bringing the video clip into Logic as a QT file? Do you have to export it separately to work with in Logic?”
Yes, and Yes. There is a “import movie” command in one of the drop down menus. (Not in front of the computer right now, but I think its in the Windows menu).
You can set Logic’s timeline to SMPTE and sync the video to the timeline.
It works automatically, but you can set offsets if needed too.Again, the video chase is pretty accurate when using a control surface like the Mackie.
