That’s great to hear. I love threads like these! 🙂
Usually when threads like this start, someone offers to make a condensed list to send to Apple….usually someone with a little “inside” leverage. 9 out of 10 times you will see features added. Multicam is a perfect example.Like I indicated in my original post, new machines usually lead to new OS’s which will undoubtedly lead to a new FCP. Now is a good time to sample the users. In 3 months we will see Pro app compatibility via Universal… I think by years-end we will see a new full Intel version of FCP.
Is there any mystery why they didn’t demo Final Cut Pro at MacWorld??? No….its simply not ready for Intel boxes.
At least that’s my theory. Usually with new machines you see benchmark comparisions using FCP.

[Arniepix] “I’m sorry, but I’ve just never really understood the scrolling timeline thing. Maybe I just don’t need to watch the playhead scroll down the ti”
I wouldn’t be mad at a scrolling timeline…or at least a sequence option/preference for it. I was always use to it from other systems. Now that I’ve been using FCP for 5+ years I’ve gotten use to not having it. At the very least, I would like to see the playhead center when you stop a sequence.

Nice list Gary.
I had track naming on the list since FCP3!! Definitely a needed feature for people who edit shows.
I work with no less than 15-20 audio tracks when I cut a show. Nameing these tracks would be a nice feature. The audio requests are great. In addition to what you have, I would love to see a scale preference where a user can definite the lower and upper ranges of the audio meters. This was a great feature in DPS back in the day.
Another missed feature that you touched on IS realtime timecode output via an overlay on an external monitor.
I agree, at this stage in FCP, this should be mandatory for the next release. With my Mackie Control surface, FCP is sending realtime TC to the unit via MIDI. So it seems IT CAN BE DONE!Ron

Yeah…you’re actually right… I was typing too fast and just lumped that into the whole slo-mo thing.
My bad.
As far as built in Rotoscoping…. nice, but I’d rather do that in an effects application like AE or Commotion (which is STILL very usable and great for roto work). If a proposed roto tool is anything like their garbage mask plugin, I’ll pass.Ron

If its technically possible, the new intel machines should REALLY have both PCI-X and PCIe slots. It would seem like it can be done if they can have PCI and PCI-X in the same box. I highly doubt Apple will make PCI-X Intel machines later this year.
Any thoughts? I’m not technically savvy on this front, but it doesn’t seem like a hard thing to do, does it?

January 13, 2006 at 6:20 am in reply to: from the Apple website on drop frames and LCD monitors !Quite honestly, I think this is a non-issue. I run 2 Dell 2001 LCD monitors (which I LOVE because of their 4 switchable inputs) and I have never had any drop frame issues. You can’t change the rates in the System Preferences nor Dell monitor Image Settings. They all play nice together…and these seem to be the unchangable defaults. Maybe the DVI connection has something to do with it? I can access image controls when I switch to composite and Y/C inputs. I don’t have the VGA hooked up….maybe one day I’ll hook up the old G4 and test it out. Somehow I get the feeling the settings will open up then.

I agree with Graeme (nice filters, by the way!!!)
Personally, since I use a Kona LH, I monitor component. I master to SDI, but my monitor is a Sony PVM14 and doesn’t have SDI. One day I’ll upgrade and eventually monitor SDI.
As far as transcoding footage… Y/C would be your best choice.
Enjoy.

And let’s not forget about WallStreet. Apple is kickin ass right now! got-dayum!!!! 🙂
Forget buying a Mac before the expo….anybody in this business should have bought more shares before Steve opened his mouth. The investment alone would have bought you a shiny new MacBook Pro!!!
(Sadly, I didn’t)Ron

January 11, 2006 at 6:16 am in reply to: from the Apple website on drop frames and LCD monitors !Interesting…. I have two Dell 2001FP monitors set to 1600X1200 @ 60Hz. The option to change to 75Hz is greyed out.
I don’t have any issue here, but its an interesting tidbit.Ron

Once you do that you can delete the bins or clips.
