Keep in mind that you can also increase the record volume in Vegas by moving the Vegas volume slider to the right.

Yes, I have used that. My plan was to record a little loud and then turn it down to meet any other audio that was quieter, but then my recording in Vegas was so low it was really a problem. But turning up the levels helped. I guess I just need to play around a bit more and see if I can improve it further. I have also noticed that microphone positioning can cause a bit of a problem if it’s not exactly the same between recordings. I guess it’s good enough for now for the use case.

Thanks a lot for replying. Sorry I couldn’t respond sooner.

I have a Logitech headset plugged into my laptop. My voice goes to about the 12 or larger on the little track meter.
Ok, now I see. If I set the audio level in that control panel higher this goes higher too. Thanks, that really helps. Thou How do I change that?

Mono not stereo? I do have it on stereo. So, I can change that to left or right. I’ll try to see if mono is an option somewhere.

So, I can turn up the audio levels when using Vegas and turn it back down for other applications (kind of a pain, oh well). But it also still does not sound the same. The Vegas recording still sounds deeper, maybe even a bit muffled by comparison. Do you have any idea why they don’t just sound exactly the same? I guess there is a different codec doing the recording, yes?

September 23, 2010 at 3:47 am in reply to: how to select marker when it’s in same place as region

There is no “edit-details” in my view menu. I have no idea what you are talking about there, but the suggestion gave me the idea of what to search for in help. So, I did figure it out.
Right above the scroll up button, there is a little flag. That’s the marker tool. Clicking on that, then clicking on a region or marker flag will cause the flag to highlight and blink. Pressing the left or right arrow keys will move to the next region/marker flag over. Oddly enough, I still can’t right click to select, nor use the context menu key to get the options for the flag I want, but I can hit the delete key and delete it.

As to why to use regions… I don’t know if there is some clever better reason, but for me it frames a region of the video that has particular meaning. I could just use two markers, but regions work a little better and I can distinguish between meaningful regions and simply meaningful points.

Now to figure out how to NOT have regions before a cut out portion of video move when doing the post-edit ripple. Maybe I should just stop using regions.

    Thanks for chiming in guys.

Or, you can use only two points if you want the volume to gradually fade down and fade back up rather than suddenly dropping out. You can right click on the points and choose different options for how it does it and do things like type in exactly what level you want to set it at so that you can have each drop/fade out be consistently the same.

July 19, 2010 at 2:43 am in reply to: Blank frames in playback

I just had this problem with Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.
I have created a few videos, but this one is longer with more tracks.

So, there was a particular section of video that looked fine on the time line, but during preview everything was completely black, though the audio worked fine. I messed around with it and closed and opened Vegas. I tried rendering the track and got back about half of it, still with blank black areas. After it happened on another section of the video, I thought to do a replace in the Project Media tab of the source video file (and accidentally replaced it with the wrong file), but when I replaced it back with the same original file, then everything was fine. It’s like Vegas just forgot how to get to the file for some frames.

Incidentally, Vegas died shortly thereafter. I think something is overloading my system. I wonder if Vegas has a leak somewhere.

  • Never mind. I figured out the right click “set to…” option.

  • Thanks for the tip. I finally figured out what you were talking about and yes, I think that’s just what I’m looking for.

However, can anyone tell me if there is a way to type in the value or more easily snap to a value or something? When I’m dragging the audio envelope line in different areas, it’s hard to position it exactly the same as before.
