  • How to tone down the soundtrack volume

    Hello.

I edited a video of my little sister’s graduation from college and I want to tone down the music channel (on MP3) a little to put some narration soundtrack and pump it up when there’s no narration at all. Can I do that on Vegas or do I need some special software to make the audio editing?

    I’m using Vegas Pro 8.

    Greetings

What you need to do is add a Volume Envelope to the music track. (right-click on an empty area of the music track and select Insert/Remove Envelope > Volume Shift+V). The volume envelope will start as a solid purple line across your music track. Then double-click on the volume envelope to add a point, move right a little bit and double-click to add another point, then pull the 2nd point down to lower the volume. Do the same to raise it again later. You will have four (4) points for each time you want to duck the volume.

Or, you can use only two points if you want the volume to gradually fade down and fade back up rather than suddenly dropping out. You can right click on the points and choose different options for how it does it and do things like type in exactly what level you want to set it at so that you can have each drop/fade out be consistently the same.
