how to select marker when it’s in same place as region

That’s interesting. I haven’t found a need for regions so I never noticed that issue. In my test, I selected the region, move the region start, delete the marker, then snap the region marker back to the start of the region. (That’s why I selected the region first).

So, tell me about regions and why would I want to use them?

View – Edit Details.
Select “Markers” in the “Show” dropdown box.
To delete a marker, click the appropriate number in the very first column, right-click it and select Delete.

Steve, I’m sure there are other uses as well but I use regions when I’m making an audio CD.

There is no “edit-details” in my view menu. I have no idea what you are talking about there, but the suggestion gave me the idea of what to search for in help. So, I did figure it out.
Right above the scroll up button, there is a little flag. That’s the marker tool. Clicking on that, then clicking on a region or marker flag will cause the flag to highlight and blink. Pressing the left or right arrow keys will move to the next region/marker flag over. Oddly enough, I still can’t right click to select, nor use the context menu key to get the options for the flag I want, but I can hit the delete key and delete it.

As to why to use regions… I don’t know if there is some clever better reason, but for me it frames a region of the video that has particular meaning. I could just use two markers, but regions work a little better and I can distinguish between meaningful regions and simply meaningful points.

Now to figure out how to NOT have regions before a cut out portion of video move when doing the post-edit ripple. Maybe I should just stop using regions.

I use regions (not often, I must confess) for batch rendering.

Sometimes I tape dance contests and need to create a clip in flash format for each presentation, for further upload to the website.

So I put all the clips on a timeline, run a script to create a region for each clip on the timeline and then run a batch render to create the flv files.
